Ride height and spring preload

Understand the two adjustments before choosing a lowering range.

Ride height and spring preload

On a separate body-length design, the lower mount changes assembly length. The spring seat changes preload with the damper fully extended.

Other designs adjust height differently. Check your kit’s method and limits.

Identify which part moves

On a full-length adjustable design, the lower bracket can change the assembly length separately from the spring seat. BC Racing lists separate height and preload adjustment for BR; TEIN describes full-length adjustment on FLEX Z. Other designs work differently. Use the instructions for the exact application to identify its adjustment method.

A lowering figure needs an application

A stated height range belongs to the vehicle and kit it was measured for. Original ride height, body style and axle specifications can differ. Compare the front and rear figures for your application, and ask us about wheel and tyre clearance before choosing a kit around a particular stance.

Plan the fitted setup

Give the installer your intended use and target height before fitting. Ask them to check the finished alignment and the clearances through suspension movement. The spring seat and lower bracket are not interchangeable controls on every kit; this illustration explains the layout and is not a fitting procedure. Retain the manufacturer instructions and settings with the car.
