Abarth 124 Spider.
The coilover guide.
Shop the coiloversThe Abarth already has its own Bilstein suspension tune. Choose a replacement around the height and damping control you need, with the wheels and finished alignment planned together.
The Abarth roadster started with its own setup.
Before replacing the factory dampers, decide what you want to change. A road car might need a usable height and one damping adjustment; a developed circuit car may need separate controls and reservoir installation. Those are different fitting and setup jobs, even when the kits share an application code.
Our current Abarth 124 Spider selection contains five AST versions and three MOTON versions. Their manufacturer's application tables explicitly include the modern 348-series car. Use the exact part number and build specification when ordering; a shared listing with Fiat or Mazda does not make every component from those cars interchangeable.
Abarth unveiled the modern 124 Spider at Geneva in 2016. The EMEA specification used a 1.4-litre MultiAir turbo engine, rear-wheel drive and a mechanical limited-slip differential, with a choice of six-speed manual or automatic transmission. It arrived with Abarth by Bilstein dampers and specific chassis tuning, so a replacement needs to serve a clear purpose.
The UK 124 GT followed in 2018 with a removable carbon-fibre roof and lightweight OZ wheels. Abarth announced 50 examples for the UK and described the roof as weighing about 16 kg. Record whether that roof and the original wheels are still on the car when discussing its suspension.
The factory 124 Rally is a separate competition application. Its launch specification included a 1.8-litre engine, structural changes and dedicated suspension development. This guide's road-car listings do not establish compatibility with that car, or with the earlier classic 124.

Road-going manual Spider
Start with the modern Abarth 124 Spider 348-series application. The maker's current tables list the eight part numbers below for 2016–2019 cars. Check the actual build date, original market and modifications; a later registration date alone does not settle the application.
Compare the road-car range
Automatic Spider
Abarth offered the same roadster with a six-speed automatic. The catalogue does not split these eight kits by transmission, so they are a starting range for checking. Give us the actual gearbox and car specification before settling the springs, supplied mounts and height.
Check the automatic starting range
124 GT with removable hardtop
The GT keeps the double-wishbone front and five-link rear layout. Record the roof, wheel specification and any later changes. These are the current 348-series starting listings; confirm the exact GT before treating a general application row as a complete fitting specification.
Compare the GT starting range
Converted or competition cars
Tell us about a cage, engine conversion, substantial aero or altered suspension arms before choosing a specification. The factory 124 Rally needs a separate check. A track-prepared road car and an R-GT rally car should not be treated as the same application.

Road miles, circuit weekends or a car built around the lap. Start with how you drive.
Keep the original mount arrangement and choose a height you can use.
Read the buying advice
AST 5100 Street ACS-M1207S uses height and rebound adjustment and works with the original top mounts. AST specifies non-inverted dampers for double-wishbone applications. Check the condition of the mounts being reused and confirm the spring package. A modest height change with sound hardware and measured alignment is a more useful brief than asking for the largest possible drop.
- Rebound and height adjustment
- Uses original top mounts
- Plan travel and road clearance
Compare the mount package before adding more damping controls.
Read the buying advice
AST 5100 Clubracing ACC-M1207S is the one-way competition option in the current range. The maker's part list identifies its front and rear top-mount package. Confirm the actual mount type and supplied springs for this application; a generic camber-plate claim does not describe the geometry of a double-wishbone or multi-link car. Keep tyre pressures, alignment and damper changes in the same setup record.
- One-way damping adjustment
- Check front and rear mount package
- Keep a repeatable setup record
Separate compression and rebound when the setup work needs both.
Read the buying advice
MOTON 2-Way M 521 027S provides separate rebound and compression adjustment, with compression controlled at a remote reservoir. The maker's application table includes the 348-series Fiat/Abarth road car. Plan brackets, protected hose routing and adjuster access with the installer. Choose springs around the actual tyres, weight and circuit use rather than assuming that an extra control guarantees a better result.
- Separate compression and rebound
- Remote reservoir installation
- Specify around the actual car
Five rear links. A spring around the damper.
The rear spring surrounds the damper on a standard Abarth 124 Spider.
Component layout only. Mounts, dimensions and adjusters vary by kit.The road car has double wishbones at the front and a five-arm multi-link rear suspension. Its rear coil spring sits around the damper. Abarth's cutaway and the corresponding Mopar rear assembly show that arrangement; the suspension links locate the wheel.
Set preload and ride height from the instructions for the exact kit, then check the car through steering and suspension movement. The spring's rate is not the wheel rate, because the installation geometry matters too. Do not copy a Mazda setup solely because a particular kit shares a part number.
Confirm how camber and toe will be adjusted on the actual car. Its double-wishbone and multi-link suspension needs application-specific alignment hardware; a generic strut camber-plate description is insufficient.
Understand height and preload
Plan the height around your wheels.
The UK brochure lists 17-inch wheels and 205/45 R17 tyres, but record what is fitted now. Give the installer front and rear widths, offsets and tyre sizes. Check arch, suspension and brake-line clearance through steering and suspension movement at the intended height.
Inspect the bushes, joints, mounts and alignment adjusters before fitting. Arrange the final alignment at the chosen height and retain the printout. With a reservoir kit, confirm mounting locations and hose protection; with a hardtop or cage, check that the dampers can still be adjusted.
Wheels, offsets and body clearance
A different wheel width or offset changes more than the arch gap. Give the fitter the exact tyre model and size and check clearance throughout the required movement. Retain enough travel and road clearance for where the car will be driven.
Existing Bilstein dampers and mounts
Identify the factory or previously fitted suspension before ordering. If the chosen kit reuses top mounts, inspect them and establish which bearings, bushes or other parts need replacing.
Roof, cage and added equipment
Tell us whether the GT roof, a cage or other substantial equipment will remain fitted. Record removed weight as well as additions so the spring specification can be discussed for the finished car.
Reservoirs and circuit preparation
Plan secure reservoir brackets and protected hose runs before fitting. For an open car, check the event's roll-over requirements and the driver's seating position. Suspension choices need to sit alongside the tyre, brake and cooling plan.

Compare the controls and hardware included in each range.
The range includes 5100 Street ACS-M1207S, Street Performance ACT-M1207S, Clubracing ACC-M1207S, 5200 RIV-M1207S and 5300 RAC-M1207S. Street works with OE mounts; confirm the application-specific hardware on the other versions. The 5200 separates compression and rebound; 5300 adds separate high- and low-speed compression controls.
View AST 124 Spider kitsThe listed choices are 1-Way Clubracer M 521 127S, 2-Way M 521 027S and 3-Way M 521 023S. Questions about Abarth 124 Spider coilovers.
Check the details before choosing your kit.
Which coilovers are currently listed for the Abarth 124 Spider?
The current selection has five AST versions and three MOTON versions for the modern 348-series application. Open the exact kit for its current options and specification. The manufacturer's shared Fiat/Abarth and Mazda listings do not make every part from those cars interchangeable.
Didn't the Abarth already have Bilstein suspension?
Yes. Abarth's road-car specification included Abarth by Bilstein dampers and its own chassis tuning. Decide what you want to change about the height, damping or supplied hardware before replacing it.
Can a 124 GT use the same starting range?
The GT retains the road car's double-wishbone front and five-link rear layout. The listed 348-series kits are a starting range for checking, not a substitute for confirming the exact GT, roof, wheels and modifications with the selected kit.
Are the kits split between manual and automatic cars?
The current manufacturer's 348-series application rows do not split these part numbers by transmission. Give us the actual gearbox and build specification so the spring package, hardware and height can be checked before ordering.
Does the rear spring sit separately from the damper?
The modern road-going 124 has its rear spring around the damper within a five-arm multi-link suspension. Abarth's cutaway and the corresponding Mopar assembly show that layout. Follow the exact replacement kit's instructions for preload, mounts and height.
Do these listings cover the factory 124 Rally?
No Rally compatibility is established here. The factory 124 Rally was a separate competition car with dedicated suspension development and different structural and powertrain specifications. Ask for an exact competition-application check.
What changes between one-way, two-way and three-way kits?
The named one-way systems adjust rebound. Two-way systems add separate compression adjustment; the named three-way systems separate high- and low-speed compression as well as rebound. Check the controls and reservoir arrangement on the exact kit and plan how you will use them.
How far should I lower the car?
Use the selected kit's instructions and the actual wheel and tyre combination. There is no single lowering target established for every kit and modified Abarth in this guide. Check travel, clearance and the finished alignment before settling the height.
Are camber-adjustable top mounts included?
Check the application-specific package. AST Street works with OE mounts, while other versions have different mount packages. A generic strut camber-plate description does not establish how the Abarth's double-wishbone and multi-link alignment is adjusted.
Let’s talk suspension.
