Robe, XPLAY or Cero: identify the car beneath the body panels, then plan the mounts, usable height and wheel clearance. Start with the single BC V1 kit we currently list.

Which Copen LA400 do you have?1 listed kit · 1 brandReviewed 4 November 2026

One framework, several ways to recognise a Copen.

The second Copen lets owners change more than the wheels. Its different outer panels can hide the same basic generation, while S and GR versions bring factory equipment that deserves a separate check. Record the frame code and original grade before choosing suspension.

Our current later-generation listing is BC Racing V1 VA BCR-ZF-10 for Copen FWD LA400K. It is a starting point for an exact-car check, with named 5 kg/mm front and 3 kg/mm rear springs. The earlier L880K kits belong to a different car.

Daihatsu launched the redesigned Copen Robe on 19 June 2014. Its D-Frame structure carries a folding hardtop and replaceable outer body panels. The original specification pairs a 658 cc three-cylinder turbo engine with front-wheel drive and a five-speed manual or CVT.

XPLAY followed in November 2014 with angular black body cladding. Cero arrived in June 2015 with round headlights and a different nose. Daihatsu describes the same underlying framework and chassis across these designs; Robe and Cero can exchange specified exterior panels and lamps. A photograph of the front end alone will not identify every modified car.

The range reached 10,000 sales by 3 June 2015, according to Daihatsu's Cero launch announcement. Factory changes matter more to a suspension order than that family resemblance: Robe S introduced dedicated Bilstein dampers, while GR SPORT later received its own suspension and bracing changes. Tell us what the car was built as, including any later panel conversion.

Standard Robe LA400K

Check the LA400K frame code, engine, transmission and original grade. The current BC row names Copen FWD from 2014 onward without a trim-by-trim approval list. Use the named kit as a starting point and identify S, GR or modified hardware before ordering.

Standard XPLAY LA400K

Daihatsu says XPLAY uses the Robe's structure and suspension system. Its black geometric cladding changes the appearance, not the need to check the exact car. Confirm the original grade, wheel clearance and any changes before using the broad BC LA400K listing.

Standard Cero LA400K

The round-headlamp Cero shares the later framework and chassis. Keep its LA400K identity separate from the rounder first-generation L880. Check whether it is a standard Cero, an S or a converted car; the body panels alone do not settle the suspension specification.

S, GR and modified cars

S models have factory Bilstein equipment; GR SPORT has dedicated suspension and bracing changes. Conversions and competition builds add further questions. Give us the original grade, full frame code, fitted hardware and intended use for an individual application check.

The listed BCR-ZF-10 is V1 VA, with a front pillowball mount and named 5 kg/mm front / 3 kg/mm rear springs. Discuss mount condition, noise expectations and the rear hardware supplied or reused for this application. Keep enough travel and clearance for the actual roads and wheels, then arrange the final alignment at the chosen height.

This is the same BCR-ZF-10, not a second track-specific product. V1 has a combined one-way damping control rather than independent compression and rebound settings. Provide the tyres, wheel dimensions and any braces or cage before fitting. Record the chosen height and settings, check control access with the roof equipment in place, and confirm the event's requirements.

We do not list a verified bespoke competition package for the LA400. Supply the car's grade, weight changes, tyres, suspension arms, cage and intended ruleset. A supplier and installer can then assess the available travel, mount arrangement and spring specification. A broad road-car application is not a competition approval.

The rear spring still has its own seats.

Separate rear spring and damperThe coil spring rests between its own seats, beside a separate shock absorber. This fixed component diagram does not show vehicle dimensions, mounting hardware or suspension movement.SpringDamper

On a standard Daihatsu Copen LA400, the rear spring and damper are mounted separately.

Component layout only. Mounts, dimensions and adjusters vary by kit.

Daihatsu's original LA400 drawings show front MacPherson struts and a torsion-beam rear axle. At the rear, each coil spring sits separately from its damper. Keep that layout in mind when a complete suspension kit is described as coilovers.

Follow the instructions for the actual rear spring adjuster, seats and damper. Changing a rear damper's length is not automatically the way to set rear ride height. Have the installer check spring seating and usable movement together, rather than applying the front strut's adjustment sequence to both axles.

A front pillowball mount does not establish rear camber adjustment. BC's application table marks front camber availability, but the exact supplied hardware and adjustment must be confirmed for this order. Set the intended height before measuring the final alignment.

Understand height and preload

Check the wheels, roof access and original grade.

Give the fitter the front and rear wheel widths, offsets and tyre sizes. Check inner strut clearance, arches, brake hoses and available travel at the intended height. XPLAY cladding or a Robe-to-Cero panel change does not establish the clearance behind the visible bodywork.

Inspect mounts, bushes, joints and spring seats before fitting. Identify which rear hardware the actual kit supplies or reuses, and check access to damper controls around the folding-roof equipment and any added braces. Keep the alignment printout and the final height/settings for later adjustments.

Body panels and wheel clearance

Record wheel and tyre dimensions even when the car retains factory panels. Different offsets can reduce inner clearance or bring the tyre closer to an arch. Check movement and steering clearance on the actual car; a panel conversion is not a wheel-fitment measurement.

Factory S and GR equipment

Identify original Bilstein or GR components before planning their replacement. Record existing braces and any later suspension changes. The broad LA400K product name does not settle every factory-special or Toyota-badged application.

Rear spring seats and mounts

List the supplied and reused rear parts with the installer. Inspect the separate spring supports and damper mounts while accessible. Use the kit's own installation limits and sequence instead of copying another car's lowering figure.

Roof operation and circuit preparation

Check how the adjusters can be reached after fitting, with roof equipment, braces and any cage in place. For circuit use, confirm driver clearance and event rules. An adjustable road kit alone does not establish a complete track preparation.

BC Racing

Our current LA400K listing is V1 VA BCR-ZF-10 with named 5 kg/mm front and 3 kg/mm rear springs. The manufacturer table identifies Copen FWD, LA400K and VA, with front camber availability marked. Confirm the actual front adjustment and rear mount inclusion; a generic configuration label does not describe every part supplied.

Questions about Daihatsu Copen LA400 coilovers.

Check the details before choosing your kit.

Which coilover kit is currently listed for the later Copen?

We currently list BC Racing V1 VA BCR-ZF-10 for Copen FWD LA400K. Open the product for current options and availability, then confirm the actual grade and specification before ordering.

Do Robe, XPLAY and Cero share the same suspension?

Daihatsu identifies the same later framework and chassis across those body designs. Check the original grade and fitted equipment before choosing a kit, especially S or GR versions. A changed front end does not identify every part underneath.

Can I use the earlier L880K kit on an LA400?

The earlier and later Copen are separate generations with different named kit applications. BCR-ZF-10 identifies LA400K; the first-generation part numbers should not be transferred to it.

What if my car is an S model?

Daihatsu fitted dedicated Bilstein dampers to the S models discussed here. Tell us the exact original grade and current hardware so the replacement application, mounts and fitting plan can be checked separately.

Does the LA400K listing automatically cover a Copen GR SPORT?

No. GR SPORT has dedicated suspension and bracing changes, and a Toyota-badged car needs its own full frame-code check. The current broad LA400K row does not establish every GR or Toyota application.

Why are the rear springs separate from the dampers?

That is the LA400's original torsion-beam layout. Each rear spring has separate seats beside its damper. Follow the selected kit's rear spring-adjuster and damper instructions rather than treating it as a second front strut.

Does V1 have separate compression and rebound controls?

The listed V1 is a one-way system with a combined damping control. It does not offer independent compression and rebound adjustment. Use the exact kit's instructions for its settings.

Does the VA label confirm every mount and camber adjustment?

The current listing names a front pillowball configuration, while BC's table marks front camber availability. Confirm the exact front adjustment and rear hardware supplied or reused. The label alone is not a complete application-specific parts list.

How much should I lower my LA400 Copen?

Choose the height around the actual wheels, clearance and usable suspension travel within the selected kit's limits. We do not have an application-specific recommended lowering range to quote for this listing. Set the height before the final alignment.

Let’s talk suspension.

Tell us the original grade, frame code, current wheels and any factory or later suspension changes. We can check the LA400 application and discuss the fitting plan.
