Suzuki Ignis FF21S.
The coilover guide.
Shop the coiloversFF21S covers both front- and four-wheel-drive Ignis models. Choose the driven wheels first: our current BC Racing kits have separate references and spring rates, with the original mounts checked before fitting.
A small crossover with two rear layouts.
The compact crossover introduced in Japan in 2016 is a different car from the earlier Ignis and Ignis Sport. Its short body and upright cabin make it recognisable, but the drivetrain determines which listed suspension kit to start with.
BC Racing V1 VN L-33 is the front-wheel-drive reference; L-27 is the separate AWD reference. Include the original market, engine, transmission and build date when confirming either application.
Suzuki announced the new Ignis in January 2016 and put it on sale in Japan on 18 February. The five-door body measured 3.7 metres long, with a high seating position and the three slanted grooves on the rear pillar. Suzuki's model history distinguishes it from the HT-generation car previously sold as Ignis in Europe.
The Japanese launch range used the 1.2-litre K12C DUALJET engine with mild-hybrid assistance and CVT, with front- or four-wheel drive across its MG, MX and MZ grades. Suzuki presented the car to Europe at Paris later in 2016, ahead of planned European sales from January 2017. Check the actual market and powertrain when matching a later registration to a kit.
Suzuki called the European four-wheel-drive system ALLGRIP AUTO. Its viscous coupling can send drive to the rear when the front wheels lose grip. That extra rear driveline is accompanied by a different rear suspension structure; the shared FF21S code does not make the FWD and AWD kits interchangeable.
A lowered Ignis needs a fitting plan that accounts for the way its crossover body is used. Decide how much of the original ground clearance you need for driveways, uneven roads or normal passenger loads. Give the fitter the wheels already fitted, rather than choosing a drop from a parked photograph.

FF21S front-wheel drive
BC L-33 names the 2016-on Ignis FWD, FF21S. The current V1 VN configuration lists 4 kg/mm front and 3 kg/mm rear springs. Confirm the original market, engine, build date and retained upper-mount hardware for the exact car.

FF21S AWD / ALLGRIP
BC L-27 is the separate 2016-on Ignis AWD reference. It lists 5 kg/mm front and 2.5 kg/mm rear springs. Confirm the actual four-wheel-drive specification and original hardware; FF21S alone cannot distinguish it from the FWD car.

Other market, powertrain or later specification
Send the chassis identification, original market and engine, plus manual, automatic or CVT transmission details. The Japanese launch specification is not a description of every exported Ignis. Confirm facelift and later engine applications against the selected kit before ordering.
Check my Ignis specification
Earlier Ignis or modified project
The earlier Ignis and Ignis Sport have separate applications. For a converted FF21S, describe changed hubs, arms, mounts or rear spring seats, and include the tyres and any cage. Existing modifications need checking alongside the original chassis and drivetrain.

L-33 V1 VN is the listed front-wheel-drive starting kit, with 4 kg/mm front and 3 kg/mm rear default rates and adjustable damping. VN supplies no front top mount and describes a rubber rear arrangement. Inspect the retained mounts and front bearings, then agree a finished height around the tyres, driveway clearance and passengers the car carries.

- Inspect retained mounts and bearings
- Measure clearance with normal loads
Start with the AWD reference and discuss the intended use.
Read the buying advice
L-27 V1 VN is the separate AWD starting point, listing 5 kg/mm front and 2.5 kg/mm rear. Give the supplier the tyre compound, wheels and intended circuit use to check whether that configuration is appropriate. Agree the spring, travel and damping requirements for the actual build before using the car on track.

Include the chassis and driven wheels, then describe the cage, removed interior, tyres and altered suspension hardware. Measured corner weights and event requirements help the supplier assess spring and damper needs. Confirm the appropriate package for the build before treating either listed V1 kit as a competition specification.
- Identify chassis and driven wheels
- Include weight and hardware changes
- Confirm springs, dampers and usable travel
Separate rear springs, different axle structures.
On a standard Suzuki Ignis FF21S, the rear spring and damper are mounted separately.
Component layout only. Mounts, dimensions and adjusters vary by kit.The FF21S has MacPherson struts at the front. Suzuki specifies a torsion-beam rear for FWD and I.T.L. (isolated trailing link) for 4WD. Both place the rear spring separately from the damper, but the rear assemblies and application references remain distinct.
Follow the selected kit's rear spring-seat and damper-length instructions. Check that the spring stays correctly located through the usable movement, including when the suspension extends. The front strut's lower-bracket adjustment does not describe the separate rear assembly.
At the intended height, measure the rear geometry and discuss any correction appropriate to the actual layout. Inspect altered locating hardware or spring seats before fitting. Height adjustment alone does not provide a rear toe or camber adjustment.
Understand height and spring preload
Choose the height with the wheels fitted.
Record wheel width, offset and tyre size, plus spacers or altered arches. Check the front through steering movement and both axles through usable suspension travel. Include the passengers and luggage normally carried when checking rear clearance.
Inspect the original mounts, front bearings, spring pads and damper bushes. Confirm the reused parts for the selected V1 VN reference and drivetrain. Settle the intended height before the final alignment, and keep the printout with the wheel and damping settings.
Ground clearance and daily use
Decide how the car will cope with your driveway, road surface and usual load at the finished height. Retain enough usable movement for those conditions. A wheel tucked neatly into the arch when parked says little about loaded clearance.
Wheels, tyres and spacers
Provide width, offset and tyre size rather than rim diameter alone. Check the tyre against the spring or damper on the inside and the arch on the outside, including full steering movement and the car's normal load.
Original mounts and rear hardware
VN supplies no front top mount, so confirm what is reused and replace worn bearings or rubber as needed. Photograph altered rear spring seats or locating parts. Include FWD or AWD in the fitting plan even when the chassis code is the same.
Record the finished setup
Keep the alignment printout, wheel specification, heights and damping settings together. If the tyres, normal load or major hardware change later, those records help the fitter assess what needs checking again.

Compare the controls and hardware included in each range.
The current FF21S selection has separate V1 VN kits: L-33 FWD with 4/3 kg/mm default rates, and L-27 AWD with 5/2.5 kg/mm. Both list adjustable damping, no supplied front top mount and a rubber rear arrangement. Confirm the exact market, powertrain and fitting hardware for the chosen reference.

Questions about Suzuki Ignis FF21S coilovers.
Check the details before choosing your kit.
Which Ignis does this guide cover?
The FF21S compact crossover launched in Japan in February 2016 and introduced to Europe for 2017. The earlier Ignis and Ignis Sport have different applications. Check the chassis identification, original market and driven wheels before ordering.
Which BC Racing kits are currently listed?
BCR-L-33 is the front-wheel-drive V1 VN reference; BCR-L-27 is the separate AWD V1 VN reference. Each currently has one listed configuration. Confirm the exact powertrain, build date, grade and reused hardware against the chosen application.
Does FF21S identify front-wheel drive or AWD?
No. Suzuki uses FF21S for both. Check the actual drivetrain as well as the chassis code. L-33 and L-27 are separate applications, and Suzuki specifies different FWD and 4WD rear suspension structures.
What are the listed spring rates?
The FWD L-33 lists 4 kg/mm front and 3 kg/mm rear; the AWD L-27 lists 5 kg/mm front and 2.5 kg/mm rear. Discuss changes with the supplier using the actual car, tyres, load and intended use. A spring-rate number alone does not establish compatibility.
Are front top mounts included?
The named V1 VN configurations supply no front top mount and describe a rubber rear arrangement. Inspect the original upper mounts and front bearings, then confirm the exact retained and supplied hardware for the selected kit and car.
Are the rear spring and damper separate?
Yes. The original FF21S has a rear spring separate from the damper. The FWD car uses a torsion beam and the 4WD car uses I.T.L. Follow the chosen kit's rear spring-seat, damper and spring-location instructions.
Will the Japanese specification cover my UK car?
Confirm the actual car against the selected kit. The Japanese launch specification used K12C mild hybrid with CVT; exported powertrains and later specifications can differ. Provide original-market, engine, transmission, chassis and build-date details rather than relying only on a registration result.
How much should I lower an Ignis?
Choose the finished height after checking the kit instructions, usable travel, wheels and normal loads. Include the ground clearance needed for the roads and driveways you use. We do not have a verified recommended lowering range for these BC applications. Measure alignment once the height is settled.
Does the AWD kit make it a track specification?
L-27 identifies the AWD application. Discuss tyres, weight changes and intended circuit use before choosing springs, dampers or settings. Have the supplier confirm whether the selected configuration is appropriate for the complete build.
