The Swift that arrived in Europe in 2005.

A standard 1.5, a European three-door Sport and a Japanese five-door Sport can look closely related while appearing in different supplier rows. Identify the engine, frame or type code, original market and build date first.

We list BC Racing L-06 with three configurations, TEIN FLEX Z VSU46-C1AA2 and two SPAX kits. Select your application to narrow the kits, then check the chosen part against the car's engine, body and drivetrain.

Suzuki introduced this Swift at the Paris Motor Show in September 2004, with European production following in 2005. Suzuki records worldwide Swift production reaching one million in 2008. The short bonnet, upright cabin and broad wheel arches are still recognisable. The standard range included 1.3- and 1.5-litre petrol engines and a 1.3-litre diesel, so identify the engine before comparing suspension.

The Japanese ZC31S Sport followed in 2005 with a 1.6-litre M16A engine and its own suspension tune. Europe's Sport arrived in 2006 as a Hungarian-built three-door. The original Japanese Sport was a five-door; both the body and original market belong in the fitting enquiry.

The chassis uses front MacPherson struts and a torsion-beam rear axle. Changing springs, dampers and height calls for checks at both ends, including the separate rear spring seats. A replacement kit does not remove the need to inspect ageing mounts, bushes, bump stops and wheel clearances.

Modified cars and uncertain applications

Ask for a check if the car has converted hubs, altered arms, different mounts, substantial weight changes or an uncertain drivetrain. Provide the frame/type code and current fitted parts. A photograph, model year or registration lookup alone cannot establish those details.

Read the buying advice

TEIN VSU46-C1AA2 uses 16-level combined damping, with 5 kgf/mm front and 4.2 kgf/mm rear springs. Both ends reuse the original upper mounts. For the named ZC31S Sport rows, the recommended height change is -50 to -30 mm front and -45 to -25 mm rear. The ZC21S 1.5 row recommends -40 to -20 mm at both ends. Discuss usable travel, tyres and event requirements with the installer instead of transferring a Sport setting to a standard car.

Separate rear springs and dampers.

Separate rear spring and damperThe coil spring rests between its own seats, beside a separate shock absorber. This fixed component diagram does not show vehicle dimensions, mounting hardware or suspension movement.SpringDamper

On a standard Suzuki Swift 2005–2010, the rear spring and damper are mounted separately.

Component layout only. Mounts, dimensions and adjusters vary by kit.

The rear springs sit on their own seats beside the dampers, on a torsion-beam axle. The front springs sit around MacPherson struts. These two arrangements need different height-setting procedures.

For a separate rear spring, the spring seat sets its installed height arrangement. Set the damper length, spring retention and available movement using the complete instructions for the exact kit. Do not transfer a front lower-bracket procedure to the rear or assume that an adjustable damper alone determines height.

Set the intended height before measuring the final alignment. Different dampers or springs do not by themselves add a particular rear camber or toe adjustment. Ask the fitter to assess the actual parts and the measurements needed for the car's use.

Check the hardware before lowering the car.

Record wheel width, offset and tyre size, then check strut, body and arch clearances through steering and suspension movement. Include wheel spacers, altered arms and the load the car normally carries. Allow room for the movement needed on the roads you use when choosing the finished height.

Inspect front upper mounts and bearings, rear spring seats, bushes, joints and existing hardware. TEIN's listed kit reuses original upper mounts; BC's RN label does not supply a new front mount. Arrange final alignment after the intended height is set and retain its measurements.

Wheels and tyre clearance

Provide the actual width, offset and tyre dimensions, including spacers. Check clearance on steering lock and through the movement required at the chosen height. A wheel photograph or diameter alone does not establish inner strut or arch clearance.

Upper mounts and spring seats

Inspect the parts being reused before booking fitting. Confirm the precise contents of the selected BC configuration or SPAX kit. TEIN's STD designation means original upper mounts are reused; it does not mean new camber-adjustable mounts are included.

Controls and reservoir locations

For BC ER or ZX, confirm the selected configuration and installation instructions before planning reservoir or adjuster locations. Check access with the actual wheels, liners and fitted braces. Generic series descriptions do not establish every supplied Swift fitting.

Altered arms, bushes and weight

List changed suspension arms, bushes, seats, cage and substantial weight changes. Ask the fitter to assess travel and the final geometry with those parts. Retain a clear record so future adjustments start from the car's measured setup.

Questions about Suzuki Swift 2005–2010 coilovers.

Check the details before choosing your kit.

Which coilover kits are currently listed for this Swift?

We list BC L-06 with BR RN, ER and ZX options, TEIN FLEX Z VSU46-C1AA2, SPAX RSX121 and SPAX RSX3-242. Their applications differ. Select your car's application, then open the product for current configurations and availability.

Are the standard Swift and Swift Sport interchangeable?

Do not assume that they are. TEIN names ZC21S 1.5 and ZC31S Sport rows with different recommended height changes. BC's current L-06 listing names ZC31S, while SPAX uses MZ/EZ. Match engine, type or frame code, market and build date.

Is every ZC31S Sport a three-door?

The European Sport introduced in 2006 was a three-door. The original Japanese ZC31S Sport was a five-door. Include the actual body and original market when checking a kit.

Does the rear spring sit around the damper?

No. This Swift uses separate rear springs and dampers on a torsion-beam rear suspension. Follow the chosen kit's rear spring-seat and damper instructions. The front strut's height procedure should not be copied to the rear.

Does FLEX Z include new upper mounts?

TEIN's VSU46-C1AA2 application uses STD at both ends, meaning the original upper mounts are reused. Have their condition checked and confirm any replacement hardware needed with the installer. New camber-adjustable mounts are not established by this listing.

What height range does TEIN recommend?

For its named ZC31S Sport rows, TEIN recommends -50 to -30 mm front and -45 to -25 mm rear. For the named ZC21S 1.5 row it recommends -40 to -20 mm at both ends. Maximum adjustment ranges are different and are not recommended settings.

Do the SPAX MZ/EZ listings automatically approve a Sport or diesel?

Have those cars checked individually. SPAX's current application names Swift Type MZ;EZ from May 2005. Provide the precise type, engine, original suspension and selected part number before ordering.

How do the BC L-06 configurations differ?

The current options are BR RN, ER and ZX. BR is one-way combined damping, ER has separate compression and rebound adjustment, and BC describes ZX as three-way racing suspension. Confirm the selected configuration, springs, mounts and installation requirements.

Can I add EDFC to the TEIN kit?

EDFC equipment is optional and separate from the suspension kit. For the named ZC31S application, TEIN requires front cowl-cover modification; rear interior needs cutting or removal if it interferes with the motor. Check the complete electronics and installation requirements with the supplier and fitter before ordering.
