Choosing coilovers for road and track

Compare the kit against your roads, tyres and setup plans before counting adjusters.

Conceptual layout, with exaggerated spacing where needed. Use the instructions for your exact application.

Describe the miles the car actually does

Tell us how the car is used in a normal week, then add its track use. Broken local roads, passengers and a steep driveway can matter more to a daily car than the specification of a dedicated circuit build. Be specific about what you dislike now: excessive movement, an abrupt response to bumps or a height that no longer suits the car.

Start with the application

Match year and chassis, axle details and any factory electronic damping. Compare the selected kit’s mounts, spring rates and height method before comparing different manufacturers. The standard specification for a particular car is a more useful starting point than a spring number copied from a lighter or more extensively modified build.

Tell us about tyres and substantial changes to weight. These are useful inputs to a kit enquiry, not a formula that automatically selects one spring rate.

Choose adjustments you will use

A combined damping control is simpler to record than separate compression and rebound controls. Additional controls can help a knowledgeable installer tune a specific behaviour, but they also create more settings to manage. BC Racing’s ER and ZR ranges illustrate the difference in control layout.

Compare adjustment type and service route alongside price. The number of clicks does not rank different brands by comfort or grip. Our range comparison lists the published features so you can narrow the options for the same vehicle.

Plan for the complete fitted car

Leave room in the budget for the application’s required parts, fitting and alignment. If the car changes between road and circuit use, keep a setup record instead of relying on memory. Send us your intended use through the fitment enquiry and we can check the current listed configurations. Any recommendation still needs to fit the exact car and kit.
