Keep the Giulietta’s tucked-away rear handles and curved bodywork looking tidy on a good wheel fitment. Choose the suspension around the car’s starting height and the roads it still has to cover.

The five-door with the rear handles tucked away.

A sensible drop and a well-chosen wheel can suit the Giulietta without making every speed hump a negotiation. Bring the wheel width, offset and tyre size to the fitting discussion. The space a tyre needs on a loaded corner matters more than the gap above it in a parked photograph.

This is the front-wheel-drive 940 five-door introduced in 2010. Earlier cars bearing the Giulietta name have different suspension applications. Within the 940 range, identify the engine and existing suspension before treating a broad model listing as confirmation for your car.

Alfa Romeo’s Centro Stile designed the Giulietta around a five-door body, with the rear handles high beside the side glass. It went on sale in the UK on 24 July 2010. The Compact architecture underneath uses MacPherson front struts and an independent multilink rear suspension.

The UK launch range offered different starting points: Turismo and Lusso had the comfort chassis, Veloce a sports setup, and Cloverleaf sat 10 mm lower. That launch specification does not establish the height of every later trim. Identify the springs and dampers on your own car before comparing a new kit’s lowering figures.

For a road car, decide how much of its everyday usefulness you want to keep. Larger wheels, a thinner tyre sidewall and a lower ride height all belong in the same conversation. Worn bushes or mounting parts also need attention before you can judge the replacement suspension fairly.

The listed 940 FWD application

BC Racing lists ZR-11 for the Giulietta FWD, with ABA-940 as its chassis reference and 09-20 as its application label. The current kit here is BR RN. Give us the exact engine and build details so its application and fitting conditions can be checked before ordering.

Factory sports suspension and Cloverleaf

Tell us the trim and identify the suspension already fitted, including any previous replacements. A car starting lower from the factory needs its own height discussion. A Cloverleaf or Quadrifoglio badge alone does not confirm the kit’s application or the amount it will lower your car.

Engine, build date and imported cars

Supply the engine, build date and market details for your Giulietta, especially if its registration date differs from the build date. Keep the manufacturer’s 09-20 application wording separate from the car’s 2010 launch history. Exact application checks still apply to later cars and imports.

Wheels, lowering and other changes

Include wheel widths, offsets, tyre sizes and spacer thicknesses, along with the numbers on the fitted springs and dampers. Brake or suspension-arm changes also belong in the enquiry. The workshop needs to check the car as it stands today.

The BR RN is the current named example for a matching 940 FWD. Have the original mounting parts assessed and the engine application confirmed. Agree a usable height with the fitter, allowing for passengers, access ramps and the rougher stretches of your regular journeys.

Tell us which tyres you plan to use, how often you drive on circuit and what brake preparation is already in place. Those details help the suspension discussion. A listed road-car application alone does not establish the spring and damper specification for your intended circuit use.

Bring the event regulations, intended tyres and proposed finished specification to the builder before choosing the suspension. Changes to weight, mounting points or suspension geometry need reviewing together. Ask for a specification matched to the project before ordering a catalogue kit.

Separate rear springs within a multilink layout.

Separate rear spring and damperThe coil spring rests between its own seats, beside a separate shock absorber. This fixed component diagram does not show vehicle dimensions, mounting hardware or suspension movement.SpringDamper

On a standard Alfa Romeo Giulietta 940, the rear spring and damper are mounted separately.

Component layout only. Mounts, dimensions and adjusters vary by kit.

The Giulietta 940’s original rear coil spring sits on its own inboard seat, separate from the damper farther out towards the wheel. The wheel is located by an independent multilink suspension.

Check the replacement kit’s rear spring seats and damper instructions before adjusting anything. The spring and damper occupy different positions, so a front-strut adjustment method cannot simply be repeated at the rear. Have the existing bushes and mounting parts assessed during the fitting inspection.

Bring the wheels into the suspension discussion.

Ask the workshop to check tyre clearance with the passengers and luggage you expect to carry, and through suspension movement. At the front, include steering lock and inner clearance around the strut. A wheel that clears when parked can still need more room as the suspension compresses.

Record hub-to-arch measurements and identify the suspension already installed. Agree which original mounting parts will be retained or renewed, then plan alignment after fitting at the chosen running height. Keep the settings and wheel specification together so later changes have a known starting point.

Wheel width and offset

Give the fitter the width, offset and tyre size for each axle. Add any spacers and check both the inner clearance and outer arch through steering and suspension movement.

Original mounts and bushes

The current RN specification does not include a front top mount. Establish which original parts are required and assess their condition before the appointment, including the bushes that locate the wheels.

Existing springs and dampers

Identify earlier lowering work and factory sports equipment. A quoted drop may use a different starting height from the one your car has now; measure before choosing the finished height.

Tyres and brake preparation

Describe the tyres and any brake changes when discussing circuit use. The builder needs the complete car specification before recommending springs or damping for that purpose.

BC Racing

The current ZR-11 listing is BR RN for the 940 FWD. Its nominal spring rates are 6 kg/mm front and 2.5 kg/mm rear, subject to specification changes and confirmation for the supplied kit. Check the retained front mounting parts and rear hardware. The chassis listing alone does not approve every engine, trim or modified car.

Questions about Alfa Romeo Giulietta 940 coilovers.

Check the details before choosing your kit.

Does this guide cover the older rear-wheel-drive Giulietta?

It covers the front-wheel-drive 940 five-door introduced in 2010. Earlier Giulietta generations have different suspension applications. Match the chassis and exact kit listing before ordering.

Which coilover kit is currently listed for the Giulietta 940?

The current example is BC Racing BCR-ZR-11 in BR RN specification. The manufacturer names the Giulietta FWD and ABA-940. Confirm the engine, build details and fitting conditions for your car through the current product configuration.

Does the Giulietta 940 have separate rear springs and dampers?

Yes. The original rear spring sits on its own inboard seat, separate from the damper nearer the wheel. The rear suspension is independent multilink. Use the replacement kit’s instructions to establish its rear adjustment method.

Does the D.N.A. selector mean my Giulietta has adjustable dampers?

The selector alone does not establish the damper equipment. Alfa’s launch description includes engine, gearbox, steering, brake and electronic differential functions. Identify the suspension actually fitted before choosing replacement parts.

Does the RN kit include new front top mounts?

The current RN specification lists no front top mount. Check the required original mounting parts and their condition with the supplier and fitter before ordering. Do not assume camber plates are included.

Will a factory-lowered Giulietta drop by the full quoted amount?

Identify the original specification and measure the car first. The UK launch Cloverleaf was already 10 mm lower, while other factory sports or replacement setups need their own checks. Quoted lowering is not necessarily an extra drop from the car’s present height.

Are the listed spring rates a recommendation for track use?

The nominal 6 kg/mm front and 2.5 kg/mm rear figures describe the listed RN specification, subject to confirmation and changes. Circuit use needs a separate discussion of tyres, weight, event requirements and the whole build before a spring and damper package is chosen.

Will the registration finder account for my wheel upgrades?

It helps identify the car. Supply the wheel widths, offsets, tyre sizes, spacers and suspension changes separately so they can be checked against the exact kit and intended running height.
