Alfa Romeo MiTo 955.
The coilover guide.
Shop the coiloversThe MiTo suits a neat wheel upgrade and a useful drop. Identify the original dampers first, then compare the BC Racing and SPAX references around the roads and journeys you actually use.
Small Alfa, with an 8C family resemblance.
Measure the wheels and tyres already fitted before choosing the MiTo’s finished height. Inspect the spring seats and dampers, and leave room for the rear wheels to move with passengers aboard.
The current selection includes BC Racing BR RN, SPAX RSX and SPAX RSX Double Adjustable. Factory active suspension needs a separate compatibility check. The DNA selector by itself does not tell you which dampers are on the car.
The MiTo went on sale in the UK on 24 January 2009 as a three-door hatchback. Alfa drew its name from the Milano styling centre and Torino factory, and borrowed visual cues from the 8C Competizione, including the headlamp shapes and circular rear lights.
The UK range gained MultiAir engines and the 170bhp Cloverleaf in 2010. That Cloverleaf had active suspension working with DNA. The 2016 update brought revised grilles and trim names; the UK Veloce replaced Quadrifoglio Verde and listed Alfa Active Suspension as standard.
An early Veloce and a 2016 Veloce have different original specifications. Check the build details and actual dampers when buying suspension, particularly if springs, badges or bodywork have changed.

MiTo 955: confirm conventional dampers
BC Racing specifies MiTo FWD type 955 and 2008 to 2018; SPAX lists MiTo from 2008 onwards. Confirm your engine, build and original suspension details against the exact package before ordering.

Engine, brakes and existing changes
Give us the engine and full vehicle details. Include any brake upgrade, replacement front mounts and existing lowering springs so the supplied springs and mounting package can be checked for that build.
Check my MiTo application
Cloverleaf, QV and active-damper checks
Check whether the car has factory damping control and whether it is still fitted. The active system interacts with DNA, but DNA also appears on cars without those dampers. Agree the exact replacement hardware and electronic requirements before selecting a kit.
Ask about my active suspension
Changed car or circuit project
Bring a list of fitted suspension parts, wheels and tyres. Include intended passengers, road mileage and circuit use when discussing springs and adjustment. Have previous conversions and replacement mounting parts checked with the fitter.

Check the original front mounts.
Read the buying advice
BC Racing ZR-03 is the BR RN example. Its listed arrangement supplies no front top mounts and names rubber rear mounts, so have the retained front mounting parts assessed. Confirm the springs and rear hardware, then choose a height that clears your regular road surfaces.
- Confirm the exact 955 application
- Check retained front mounts
- Keep room for everyday loads
Start with a recorded baseline.
Read the buying advice
SPAX RSX993 is the single-adjustable example. Confirm its actual supplied springs and rear height arrangement, then have the fitter establish a usable height and alignment. Record the starting settings and tyre behaviour before making changes between sessions.
- Single-adjustable RSX reference
- Confirm supplied rear arrangement
- Record settings and tyre condition
Use separate controls with a setup plan.
Read the buying advice
SPAX RSX3-1986 is double adjustable, with separate bump and rebound controls. Discuss whether those controls suit the build and the support available for setting it up. Choose the complete spring and damper package with the builder, including the exact application and event requirements.
- Separate bump and rebound controls
- Define tyres and intended circuit use
- Agree a measured setup process
Separate rear springs on a torsion beam.
On a standard Alfa Romeo MiTo 955, the rear spring and damper are mounted separately.
Component layout only. Mounts, dimensions and adjusters vary by kit.The MiTo uses a torsion-beam rear axle. Its main coil springs sit on their own seats, separately from the rear dampers.
Check the spring pads, seats, damper mounts and beam bushes during the fitting work. Confirm how the chosen kit sets rear height and which original parts remain. Ask the fitter to identify the rear height adjuster from the supplied instructions.
Understand height and spring preload
Check the hardware behind the wheel upgrade.
Give the fitter the wheel width, offset, tyre size and any spacers. Check inner strut clearance, the outer arch and brake clearance on the actual car. Include normal passengers and luggage when choosing how much clearance to leave.
Have worn front mounting parts and rear spring pads assessed before fitting. Keep a note of the existing hub-to-arch measurements, follow the kit’s settling instructions and arrange the final alignment at the agreed running height.
Front mounts and bearings
The listed BC BR RN does not supply front top mounts. Confirm which original mounts, bearings and fixings are retained, and assess their condition before the new suspension goes on.
Rear seats and beam bushes
Inspect the spring pads, seats and damper mounting points alongside the beam bushes. A new damper cannot correct movement in a worn mounting.
Factory damping control
Identify the original system and any previous conversion. Do not assume a DNA switch, a trim badge or a missing warning message proves compatibility with a mechanical replacement kit.
Wheels, brakes and usable height
Check the tyre and wheel package through steering and suspension movement. Include larger brakes and spacers, then choose a height that works on your usual routes.
The current MiTo 955 range.
Compare the controls and hardware included in each range.
ZR-03 is the current MiTo FWD type 955 reference, listed as BR RN with no front top mounts and rubber rear mounts. Confirm the selected springs, retained front parts and the actual rear height arrangement for the order.
View BC Racing MiTo 955 kitsRSX993 is the single-adjustable listing; RSX3-1986 has separate bump and rebound controls. The catalogue gives 35 to 65 mm at both ends for these references, using the original suspension as its baseline. Check the additional drop for a factory-lowered or already modified car.

Questions about Alfa Romeo MiTo 955 coilovers.
Check the details before choosing your kit.
Which coilover kits are currently listed for the MiTo?
The current selection is BC Racing BCR-ZR-03 in BR RN specification, SPAX RSX993 and SPAX RSX3-1986. Confirm the engine, build and original suspension against the exact reference before ordering.
Can I fit these to a MiTo with factory active suspension?
Ask for a specific check before ordering. Identify the active dampers and any earlier conversion, then confirm the replacement hardware and electronic requirements. The general MiTo application labels do not settle that compatibility.
Does the DNA selector mean my MiTo has active dampers?
No. DNA appears on MiTos with conventional dampers as well. On versions equipped with active suspension it also works with the damping system. Check the vehicle specification and the parts actually fitted.
Are the MiTo’s rear spring and damper separate?
Yes. The torsion-beam rear suspension carries the main spring on its own seat, separately from the damper. Confirm the chosen kit’s rear height hardware, spring pads and retained parts with the fitter.
What is the difference between the two SPAX listings?
RSX993 is the single-adjustable RSX reference. RSX3-1986 is listed as double adjustable, with separate bump and rebound adjustment. Confirm the exact supplied package and plan how the settings will be established for your tyres and use.
Does the BC Racing BR RN include front top mounts?
The current RN arrangement lists no front top mounts and rubber rear mounts. Have the retained front mounting parts checked and confirm what is supplied with the actual order.
Will the listed lowering give the same drop on every MiTo?
No. The SPAX catalogue lists 35 to 65 mm front and rear, measured against the original suspension. Factory sports suspension, existing springs, normal loads and wheel clearance affect the useful change on your car.
Will the registration finder identify an earlier suspension conversion?
The finder helps identify the vehicle. Tell us separately about fitted dampers, springs, mounts, wheels and spacers so previous changes can be included in the fitment check.
Let’s talk suspension.
Find your MiTo, then tell us the engine and whether it has factory active dampers or previous suspension work. Include wheel and tyre details so we can check the exact kit and plan the fitting.
