Give the five-door A1 room to move on its new wheels. Check the factory dampers before choosing a kit: the two Eibach references handle their electronics differently.

The second A1 starts with a different body and chassis.

A wheel change can make the angular GB-generation A1 look settled without an extreme drop. Keep enough clearance for the front tyres to steer and the rear to carry passengers. The height that works on an empty forecourt still has to work on your daily route.

These GBA applications belong to the second-generation Sportback. The earlier 8X, the raised citycarver or allstreet and a car with altered suspension need their own checks. A drive-mode button alone does not identify the dampers.

Audi introduced the second-generation A1 Sportback in 2018. The five-door body grew longer than its predecessor and gained sharply cut lights, a low grille and three small slots beneath the bonnet edge. The old three-door's curved roof arches gave way to a different side profile.

Audi also offered separate exterior and interior equipment choices. A sporty-looking used car therefore needs more identification than a glance at its bumpers. Standard, sport and electronically switchable damper equipment were among the original chassis choices.

For a road car on upgraded wheels, start with their actual width, offset and tyre size. A large wheel with little sidewall leaves less tyre compliance for rough surfaces. Choose a running height with space for steering, compression and the loads you carry.

The raised A1 citycarver, later called allstreet, needs a separate application enquiry. Eibach's general conditions exclude factory-raised variants unless specifically named. Sharing the A1 name or a platform with a Polo cannot establish the right suspension reference.

Sportback without electronic damper control

The -01 Eibach Audi row names GBA from July 2018, with 25, 30, 35 and 40 TFSI engines. It excludes electronic suspension, levelling control and four-wheel drive. Compare the exact certificate and the car's axle ratings before choosing this reference.

Sportback with factory electronic damper control

The -02 reference lists the same Audi engine and axle limits, with note 176 for factory electronic damper control. Its included PRO-TRONIC unit suppresses the warning after replacement; electronic damping adjustment is lost. Have the original equipment identified before ordering.

Citycarver or allstreet: check the raised variant

Send the exact model and original suspension details. These Sportback rows do not name the raised citycarver or allstreet. Its arch cladding and extra ride height are reasons to establish the application before considering either kit.

Choose the correct damper-equipment application first.

Read the buying advice

The -01 Pro-Street S is the named example for a checked GBA without electronic suspension. Its Audi row gives a nominal 15-40mm range at each axle. Let wheel clearance, working travel and the roads you use decide the finished height within the exact instructions. An electronically damped car needs the separate -02 application check.

Tell us how often the car visits a circuit and which tyres it will use. Check the proposed kit's suitability with the fitter and plan the height, alignment measurement and brake preparation together. The two Eibach references divide by factory electronics; the higher price does not establish a more track-focused damper.

Read the buying advice

A car on circuit tyres or with substantial weight and axle changes needs a detailed suspension enquiry. Include the tyre compound, intended use and current hardware. Agree the spring and damper specification and fitting support; an ordinary Sportback application row cannot specify a competition package.

On a standard Audi A1 Sportback GB, the rear spring and damper are mounted separately.

Component layout only. Mounts, dimensions and adjusters vary by kit.

Audi's GB technical drawing shows a torsion-beam axle with the spring and damper mounted separately. The listed Eibach arrangement adjusts rear height at the spring unit; its front axle uses a threaded strut. Keep those two adjustment instructions with their respective components.

The original rear axle has no standard geometry adjustment points in Audi's description. Have its alignment measured at the finished height and investigate an incorrect reading with the fitter. A lowered car still needs enough spring and damper travel for the load it carries.

Identify the original dampers before the order.

Ask the fitter to identify the original suspension from the vehicle information and fitted hardware. Audi drive select can affect functions beyond the dampers, so its presence alone cannot choose between the two Eibach references.

Bring the actual wheel dimensions and details of previous changes. Check the kit's required additional parts, inspect retained mounts and bearings, then agree the height with room for the tyres through steering and suspension movement.

Factory damper electronics

Check whether the car has electronically switchable dampers. The -01 excludes electronic suspension; the -02 includes warning suppression for replacing it. Confirm the intended loss of electronic damping control before choosing the latter.

Wheel and tyre clearance

Record width, offset, tyre size and any spacers. Have inner clearance and arch clearance checked through movement at the planned height. A change that clears the strut can still move a tyre too close to the outer arch.

Axle ratings and certificate

Both named Audi rows list maximum axle loads of 1010kg front and 930kg rear. Compare the car's plate and exact engine application with the current certificate. Similar figures on a Polo or Scala row do not replace the Audi conditions.

Retained parts and final geometry

Eibach flags possible additional original-equipment parts. Have the exact instructions checked and worn retained components inspected before fitting. Measure alignment after the final height is settled, including the rear beam even though it has no standard adjustment points.

Eibach

The two Pro-Street S references list GBA 25, 30, 35 and 40 TFSI applications from July 2018, with 15-40mm nominal lowering at both axles. The -01 excludes electronic suspension; -02 adds PRO-TRONIC for the factory electronic-damper application. Check the exact certificate, original equipment and current supplied parts. Choose between these references by the factory damper equipment.

Questions about Audi A1 Sportback GB coilovers.

Check the details before choosing your kit.

Is this the same A1 as the earlier 8X?

This guide covers the second-generation GB Sportback, listed as GBA in the Eibach applications. The earlier 8X has its own guide and kit references. Identify the generation from the car's build details before ordering.

What is the difference between the -01 and -02 kits?

The -01 Audi row excludes electronic suspension. The -02 includes PRO-TRONIC under note 176 for cars with factory electronic damper control. Both listed Audi rows have the same nominal lowering and axle limits; the electronics requirement determines which application to check.

Will PRO-TRONIC keep the original damper modes working?

The listed unit suppresses the warning after replacement. Eibach states that electronic damper control is no longer available. Confirm the consequences for your exact factory equipment with the fitter before ordering.

Does having Audi drive select prove I need the -02 kit?

Audi drive select can control other vehicle functions. Have the original damper equipment identified from the vehicle information and fitted parts, then compare it with the exact kit conditions.

Will these kits fit an A1 citycarver or allstreet?

The retained Sportback rows do not name those raised variants. Eibach excludes factory-raised cars unless separately listed. Send the exact model and original equipment for an application check before choosing a kit.

Are the rear spring and damper separate?

Yes. Audi's GB drawing shows the spring on its own seat beside the damper on a torsion-beam rear axle. Eibach lists rear height adjustment at a separate spring unit. Follow the actual kit's rear instructions.

How much lower will my Sportback sit?

The named Audi rows give a nominal 15-40mm range at both axles. The car's original suspension, specification and tolerances affect the result. Agree the permitted height and clearances using the exact certificate and instructions.

What should I include in a fitting enquiry?

Send the engine, build details, original damper equipment and axle ratings, plus wheel width, offset, tyre size and previous changes. Include whether the car is a raised variant and how you intend to use it. The registration finder helps identify the car but cannot confirm those details alone.
