Keep the A5’s long, low shape without making every journey a clearance test. Choose around the body, engine and axle loads, then settle the wheel specification and a height you can use.

Which A5 B8 do you have?4 listed kits · 3 brandsReviewed 7 November 2026

One shape, three ways to use it.

A Coupé on a weekend road, a Cabriolet with four people aboard and a Sportback carrying luggage need room for different loads. Decide how yours will be used before choosing its ride height. The clearance you see beside an empty, parked car is only part of the check.

The current range includes Eibach’s body-specific application rows and broader BC Racing and AST references. Some details still need confirmation: a B8 label alone does not establish body coverage, electronic-damper compatibility or an RS5 conversion.

The first A5 began as a two-door Coupé. Audi’s original technical programme shows the long doors, short boot and low roofline that define this generation. A silver multi-spoke wheel and a measured drop suit those proportions without needing a wide-body conversion.

By 2009, the fabric-roof Cabriolet and five-door Sportback had joined it. Audi’s June announcement described the Sportback as the third member of the family, with frameless doors and a large hatch. Its extra access makes it a different proposition for someone carrying passengers and luggage.

Work with the body you have. Check a Cabriolet against the Cabriolet application rather than borrowing the Coupé row; load a Sportback as you normally would when assessing clearance. Record the current wheels, tyres and any spacers before asking a fitter to set the height.

S5 and RS5 names need their own application checks. Eibach’s heavier A5 rows explicitly include S5 quattro. AST names both S5 and RS5 in its B8 table but leaves body information blank. That is something to confirm before ordering, especially on a car whose suspension has already been changed.

S5: the named heavier-load rows

Eibach -02-22 explicitly includes S5 quattro in its Coupé, Cabriolet and Sportback rows, subject to 1250 kg front and rear limits and the fitting conditions. AST also names S5 B8 AWD but leaves the body unspecified. Confirm the car’s damping equipment and exact replacement specification.

quattro: keep the engine row

Both Eibach references include named quattro engines, but the lists vary by body and load group. The shared BC S-07 row names FWD and AWD without defining the body; AST’s A5 quattro row also leaves that open. Confirm those references individually before ordering.

Changed cars: check your build

AST A2109S names RS5 B8 AWD, but its table does not specify body or conversion hardware. Give us the exact car, damping system, mounts and previous changes. Do the same for an engine swap or an A5 with altered arms; another B8 application cannot settle those details.

A stripped car on different tyres needs its spring and damper specification considered with the weight, mounting hardware and available movement. Tell the preparation team about any damping-system conversion, changed arms and event requirements. The listed road applications cannot establish the right package for every developed build.

On a standard Audi A5 B8 Coupé, the rear spring and damper are mounted separately.

Component layout only. Mounts, dimensions and adjusters vary by kit.

Audi’s original A5 technical programme shows an independent trapezoidal-link rear axle. The coil spring sits in its own inboard seat, beside the damper. It is not wrapped around that damper in the factory arrangement.

The programme distinguishes front-wheel-drive and quattro rear axle components. Confirm the spring seats, rear dampers, adjustment parts and mounts supplied with the exact kit. A shared layout does not establish interchangeable parts or approve an electronic-damping conversion.

Keep the arch gap useful.

A wider wheel changes the space on both sides of the tyre. Record its width and offset, the tyre size and any spacer thickness. Ask the fitter to check the inner suspension gap and outer arch through steering and suspension movement at the intended height.

Check the original arms, joints, bushes and mounting parts before fitting new suspension. On a Cabriolet or loaded Sportback, include the load the car will carry. Arrange the alignment after the final usable height and clearance checks have been completed.

Identify the factory chassis first

The original A5 programme puts standard 1BA and sport 1BE at the same ride height, with different spring, damper and anti-roll-bar tuning. S-line 1BV is 10 mm lower in that programme; 1BL has electronic damping. Check the actual car and later equipment changes before interpreting a quoted drop.

Wheels, tyres and spacer decisions

Eibach notes that spacers may be needed for clearance even with original wheel sizes. Have the fitter assess both inner and outer gaps before specifying them. A wider stance still needs room for the loaded tyre and the movement it will make.

Damping controls and original mounts

AST’s listed Street package retains original upper mounts. Eibach note 101 says electronic damper control will stop operating and addresses fault handling, with Pro-Tronic recommended where available. Agree the exact hardware and electronic work before the fitting appointment.

Alignment and an honest setup record

Set the height, settle the installation as instructed and check clearance before alignment. Record the final settings and any changed arms or bushes. For a road-and-track car, keep notes on the tyres and each damper change so the next adjustment has a clear reason.

Questions about Audi A5 B8 coilovers.

Check the details before choosing your kit.

Do Coupé, Cabriolet and Sportback use the same A5 coilover reference?

Eibach lists the same two references against separate 8T3, 8F7 and 8TA rows, but each row still specifies engines, dates and permitted loads. BC S-07 and AST A2109S have broader body-unspecified applications that need confirmation. Match the complete row for your car before ordering.

Does the A5 B8 have separate rear springs and dampers?

Yes. Audi’s original A5 technical programme shows the rear coil spring in its own inboard seat beside the damper on an independent trapezoidal-link axle. Confirm the exact replacement spring seats, dampers and mounts; that factory layout does not approve every kit or conversion.

What separates the two Eibach A5 references?

The -01-22 A5 rows have a 1080 kg front limit and the -02-22 rows have a 1250 kg front limit. Both list 1250 kg rear, with particular engines and bodies. S5 quattro appears in the heavier group. These are permitted axle-load limits, not a recommendation to weigh only the empty car.

Which listed kits name S5 or RS5?

Eibach PSS65-15-011-02-22 explicitly names S5 quattro in its A5 Coupé, Cabriolet and Sportback rows. AST A2109S names S5 and RS5 B8 AWD but does not specify body. Confirm the exact car and its replacement hardware before ordering; the ordinary A5 rows do not approve an RS5.

Will electronic damper control still work?

Check the exact kit and car. Eibach note 101 says the factory electronic damper control will no longer operate and explains fault handling, recommending Pro-Tronic where available. The notes also exclude levelling control. A drive-select button alone does not settle the hardware or coding work needed.

Is factory sport suspension already lower on the A5?

Audi’s original A5 programme lists standard 1BA and sport 1BE at the same height, with different suspension tuning. It puts S-line 1BV 10 mm below them and describes 1BL electronic damping separately. Confirm your car’s actual equipment, production specification and later changes before comparing that with a kit’s lowering range.

Does the shared A4/A5 Avant listing apply to this A5?

BC’s current maker table identifies S-48 as A4 Avant. Its native title also mentions A5 Avant, which does not establish an application for a first-generation A5 Coupé, Cabriolet or Sportback. The later A5 Avant is a different generation. Ask for the exact application rather than ordering from that shared title.

Should I set the kit to its lowest permitted height?

Choose a usable height within the exact kit’s approved adjustment range after checking the wheels, tyres, suspension movement and normal load. Eibach quotes 25 to 55 mm at both ends for these A5 rows, but the original suspension baseline and fitting conditions still matter. Complete clearance checks and alignment before treating the setup as finished.
