The 1990s 323 badge covers several very different bodies. Start with the BA application, then check the engine, mounts and wheel package before deciding how low to run it.

Which 323 BA do you have?1 listed kit · 1 brandReviewed 4 November 2026

One badge, several 1990s shapes.

A five-door 323F has a low bonnet, slim fixed headlights and a long rear hatch. A contemporary 323 saloon has a separate boot and a different roofline. Both can appear in a BA parts search, so the badge and registration year are only the beginning of an application check.

The current kit here is BC Racing N-15 BR RA for the listed 1994–99 BA front-wheel-drive application. Its recorded springs are 6 kg/mm front and 3 kg/mm rear. Confirm the complete mounting package for the actual car, particularly a V6, import or car with replacement hubs and struts.

Mazda launched the Lantis in 1993 and identifies it as the 323F in its export history. Its five-door hatchback body had a low, rounded nose and slim fixed headlights. The earlier pop-up-headlamp 323F belongs to the BG family. A 2.0-litre V6 was part of the Lantis range, and the five-door Coupe also appeared in Japanese touring-car racing.

The eighth-generation Familia arrived separately in 1994, with a four-door saloon and three-door NEO. Mazda developed that range around greater comfort, safety and cabin space. These cars explain why a search for a 1990s 323 can produce different silhouettes; Lantis and Familia are not interchangeable descriptions of one body.

For a car being kept and modified today, a wheel-and-tyre change makes suspension clearance worth measuring before ordering. Check the existing struts, rubber parts and mounting areas first. A fresh damper cannot correct a tired bush, damaged attachment or wheel that touches the spring platform.

BA FWD: the N-15 listing

N-15 BR RA is the current BA front-wheel-drive reference. Match the chassis, body and existing attachments with the supplier before ordering. The 1994–99 product range is an application label, not proof that every car registered in those years shares the same suspension.

2.0-litre cars and imports

Give us the full chassis identity, engine and original market. Replacement-parts catalogues distinguish the 2.0-litre 323F from smaller engines and record ABS and build-number changes. Check those details against N-15 instead of assuming that a V6 badge or similar-looking strut proves fitment.

Saloon, NEO and other 323 bodies

Identify the body before comparing parts. Mazda describes the Familia saloon and three-door NEO separately from Lantis. For a saloon, three-door car, BH designation or another import label, ask us to confirm the exact application; do not select from a five-door photograph alone.

Changed hubs or a developed build

Include details of swapped knuckles, altered top mounts, engine conversions and existing suspension. For a track project, add the tyres and running weight. The original BA label cannot approve a mounting arrangement that has since been changed.

Keep enough movement for the roads and loads you actually use.

Read the buying advice

For a confirmed N-15 application, BR RA is the listed starting point. The current specification records 6 kg/mm front and 3 kg/mm rear springs, with pillowball front and rubber rear mounts. Discuss the mounting parts and possible increase in transmitted noise before fitting. Set the running height with the installer, allowing enough movement for normal road loads.

Read the buying advice

BC describes BR as a road and occasional-track-day kit. For a confirmed BA application, the same N-15 package is the starting discussion. Agree whether its springs and damper range suit the tyres and running weight, then record alignment and damping changes between sessions. One damping adjuster changes compression and rebound together; it does not provide two independent controls.

  • Match tyres and operating weight
  • Record alignment and damper changes
  • Check clearance after each height change

Bring the competition rules, operating weight, tyres, mounting changes and service requirements to the discussion. A cage, different hubs or a major powertrain change can alter what the package needs to do. Agree the available movement, spring specification and damping support before buying; a road-kit listing alone does not establish a complete competition solution.

Component layout only. Mounts, dimensions and adjusters vary by kit.

The original Lantis homologation shows independent strut suspension at the front and rear. The rear spring surrounds the damper in the removed assembly; it does not sit on a separate spring seat elsewhere on the car.

The replacement-parts catalogue separates BA bodies, engines and build conditions. Shared strut layout does not make their attachments interchangeable. Check the actual lower bracket, upper mounting parts and supplied rear hardware against the car before fitting N-15.

Understand height and spring preload

Set the wheel package before the final height.

Bring the wheel width, offset and tyre size to the fitting discussion, including spacers. Check the inner tyre beside the strut as well as the outer arch through steering and suspension movement. Allow for passengers and normal luggage when agreeing a road height.

Inspect the strut towers, lower attachments, bushes and steering joints while the old suspension is accessible. Record any non-standard hubs or mounting parts. Once the car is settled at the chosen height, measure the alignment and keep the results with its suspension specification.

Wheels and inner clearance

A wider wheel can move the tyre closer to the strut even when the outer arch looks clear. Include the actual offset and any spacers when checking the spring platform, brake hose and tyre through movement.

Mounting condition

Inspect bearings, bushes and the body around the strut attachments before installing new parts. Identify previous repairs and replacement mounts; use the fitter’s assessment to decide what needs attention alongside the kit.

Changed engine or hubs

An engine conversion can change operating weight, while different knuckles can change the physical attachment. Supply those details when confirming N-15 and agreeing spring rates. The original registration record will not describe every modification.

A repeatable track-day setup

Note the tyres, running height, alignment and damper positions before making changes. Alter one relevant setting at a time and compare the result under similar conditions. Keep enough suspension movement for the circuit’s bumps and kerbs.

Questions about Mazda 323 BA coilovers.

Check the details before choosing your kit.

Which coilover kit is currently listed for the Mazda 323 BA?

The current reference is BC Racing N-15 BR RA for the listed 1994–99 BA front-wheel-drive application. Confirm the exact body, engine, chassis and existing attachments before ordering. Its current price and order options are on the product page.

Are 323F, Lantis and Familia the same body?

Mazda connects the Lantis name with the five-door 323F, launched in 1993. It separately describes the 1994 eighth-generation Familia saloon and three-door NEO. Names used in different markets do not prove that every car has the same suspension attachments.

What springs and mounts does the listed BR RA package use?

The current N-15 listing records 6 kg/mm front and 3 kg/mm rear springs, with pillowball front and rubber rear mounts. Confirm the supplied specification for the order, particularly if a different rate or retained mounting part is required.

Does the rear spring sit separately from the damper?

The original Lantis suspension documentation shows a rear strut with the coil spring surrounding the damper. That layout does not prove that every BA body or engine uses an interchangeable mounting package; check the exact attachments and supplied hardware.

Can I order from the V6 badge or registration year alone?

Check the full application first. Replacement-parts catalogues distinguish 2.0-litre 323F suspension references and record ABS or build-number changes. Give us the chassis, engine, original market and any altered hardware so the current kit can be checked against the car.

Do I need a different kit for occasional track days?

BC describes BR as suitable for road and occasional circuit use. Agree the springs and operating range around the actual car, tyres and use, then record the setup and inspect clearances. A developed competition build needs its own specification discussion.

Will wider wheels clear after lowering?

That depends on width, offset, tyres, spacers and the final suspension position. Have the fitter check the tyre beside the strut and through steering and suspension movement, including normal loads. Set and measure the alignment at the agreed running height.

Does N-15 replace the earlier BG or later BJ references?

No. BC lists BA separately from the BG Astina/GTX/GT-R and the later BJ application. Match the actual chassis and attachments instead of transferring a part number across the 323 name.
