BC N-24 names KE2FW, KE2AW and KEEFW for the 2012 to 2016 CX-5. Check that code before choosing the configuration, then plan the running height around your wheels and normal load.

Mazda's first full SKYACTIV production car.

Lowering a CX-5 changes the stance of a fairly tall family car. It still needs to carry its passengers and luggage over speed humps, uneven roads and driveway entrances. Decide how much of that everyday clearance you can use before settling on a height.

The current KE listing has BC Racing N-24 in BR RA and RM MA configurations. BR RA names pillowball front and rubber rear mounting; RM MA names inverted front dampers and rubber rear mounting. Check the chassis details before choosing between them.

Mazda announced the CX-5 in 2011 as the first production model combining its full SKYACTIV technology range with the KODO design direction. Japanese sales began on 16 February 2012. That launch paired a five-seat SUV body with 2.0-litre petrol and 2.2-litre diesel choices, including front-wheel-drive and four-wheel-drive versions. Export specifications varied.

The update announced in November 2014 revised the exterior, cabin and ride refinement. Those facelift cars remain part of the first CX-5 generation. The all-new 2017 model followed with further chassis changes, so keep the KE and later KF applications separate when ordering suspension.

For a modified KE, choose the tyre and wheel package alongside the suspension. A wider wheel can move closer to the arch or front strut, depending on its offset. If passengers, luggage or regular circuit use form part of the plan, include them in the setup discussion before selecting springs and running height.

Facelift KE or later KF?

Distinguish the revised first-generation car from the all-new 2017 model using its chassis and build date. This is especially useful when a registration falls near the changeover. The facelift's horizontal grille blades help recognise the car; order suspension by the exact application.

N-24 BR RA is the road starting example for the named KE applications, with pillowball front and rubber rear mounting. Discuss possible noise changes and confirm the supplied springs and any parts the fitter must reuse. Choose a height that leaves room for suspension movement with normal passengers and luggage aboard. Check driveway ramps and speed humps before asking for a further drop.

RM MA has inverted front dampers and rubber rear mounting in the current N-24 selector. Discuss that construction and the supplied spring package with the fitter for your intended tyres and circuit use. BR can also suit a road-and-track discussion. Multi-link rear suspension with a separate spring.

Separate rear spring and damperThe coil spring rests between its own seats, beside a separate shock absorber. This fixed component diagram does not show vehicle dimensions, mounting hardware or suspension movement.SpringDamper

On a standard Mazda CX-5 KE, the rear spring and damper are mounted separately.

Component layout only. Mounts, dimensions and adjusters vary by kit.

The KE uses front MacPherson struts and independent multi-link rear suspension. Each rear spring sits on its own seats beside the damper. A complete kit sold as coilovers can therefore include separate rear springs and dampers.

Follow the selected kit's instructions for the rear platforms, spring seats and damper length. Have the fitter check spring location, retention and available movement at the agreed height. Changing the running height can also change wheel alignment. Have it measured after fitting and settling, using the correct alignment adjustments for the car.

Leave room for the car to move.

Give the fitter the complete wheel and tyre specification, including spacers. Check clearance beside the front strut and around the arch through steering and suspension movement. At the rear, consider the passengers and luggage the car normally carries. A clear gap while parked is only one part of the check.

Inspect mounts, bearings, rear spring pads and suspension bushes before fitting. Agree the running height within the exact kit's instructions, then obtain an alignment record after installation and settling. Keep that record when changing wheels, tyres or height later.

Wheel width and offset

Record the wheel width, offset and actual tyre size. Include any spacers. Check the inner gap beside the strut and the outer arch clearance through the steering and suspension movement the installation needs.

Mounts and spring seats

Confirm what the selected BR RA or RM MA package supplies and what the installer must reuse. Inspect the existing mounting parts and rear pads, and check how the damping adjusters will be reached after fitting.

Normal operating load

Tell the fitter how many passengers and how much luggage the car usually carries. Check the chosen height and available movement with that load in mind, including clearance beside the rear arches.

Bushes and alignment

Check for worn suspension bushes and damaged arms before setting up new dampers. Have the alignment measured once the installation has settled, and keep the results alongside the final running-height record.

Questions about Mazda CX-5 KE coilovers.

Check the details before choosing your kit.

Which first-generation CX-5 chassis does BC N-24 name?

The application names KE2FW, KE2AW and KEEFW for the 2012 to 2016 CX-5 entry. Check the complete code, engine and driven wheels against the selected configuration before ordering.

Which N-24 configurations are available to choose?

The product selector has BR RA, with pillowball front and rubber rear mounting, and RM MA, with inverted front dampers and rubber rear mounting. Open the product for the current price and confirm the supplied springs and fitting requirements for your car.

Does N-24 also cover the later KF CX-5?

Keep the applications separate. The later KF2P model has a different BC kit reference, N-37. Check the full chassis and build date if the registration year is near the generation change.

Can I choose a kit from the facelift grille or registration year?

Use those details to help identify the car, then check its chassis code and build date. The facelift first-generation car is distinct from the all-new 2017 model, and a styling photograph alone does not confirm suspension fitment.

Are the KE's rear springs separate from the dampers?

Yes. The KE has independent multi-link rear suspension with each spring on its own seats beside the damper. Follow the exact kit's instructions for the replacement spring platforms, damper length and retention checks.

How low should I set a road-going CX-5?

Choose a height within the selected kit's instructions that leaves useful movement and clearance for your wheel package and normal load. Check steering lock, suspension movement, speed humps and driveway ramps. There is no single lowering figure suitable for every KE.

Does a registration lookup confirm that the coilovers fit?

A lookup helps identify the vehicle. The exact chassis, engine, driven wheels, original market and any changed suspension parts still need checking against the kit application.

What should the installer check alongside the coilovers?

Inspect mounts, bearings, rear spring pads and suspension bushes, then confirm the supplied and reused hardware. Check wheel and tyre clearance through movement and obtain an alignment record after fitting and settling.

Let’s talk suspension.

Use the finder, then include the full chassis code, engine, driven wheels and build date. Add the wheel package and any changed suspension hardware so we can check the exact application and fitting requirements.
