Mazda 2 DE.
The coilover guide.
Shop the coiloversN-08 names the front-wheel-drive DE5FS application. Check the engine and original market before choosing BR or RM; a Mazda2 badge and a 2007 registration are not enough.
A lighter, lower shape for the second Mazda2.
The rounded DE replaced the taller DY shape in 2007. Both can appear on a registration search near the changeover, while the later DJ is another generation again. Use the chassis identification and build date when matching suspension.
Our current DE listing offers BR RA and RM MA under BC N-08. The manufacturer table names DE5FS front-wheel drive. Other engines, three-door cars and imported variants need the application checked individually, even when their body looks familiar.
The new Mazda2 appeared at Geneva in March 2007. Production began at Mazda's Ujina plant that May, with Japanese Demio sales starting on 5 July and the European launch following in September. The compact, rounded hatch moved away from the previous DY's upright body.
Mazda described a development programme that reduced weight by roughly 100 kg against its predecessor. Its shorter, lower body was part of that work. Treat the weight of your own car as a separate setup measurement: engine, transmission and the equipment carried still affect the spring discussion.
The DE won the 2008 World Car of the Year award. Mazda also presented a three-door version at Geneva in 2008, alongside the established five-door, with European 1.3 and 1.5 petrol and 1.4 diesel engines. That wider range is useful context for recognising a car; it does not expand a DE5FS kit reference to every engine and body.

DE5FS front-wheel drive
BC's N-08 row names the 2007 to 2014 Mazda2 FWD, DE5FS. Japanese application data identifies DE5FS as the 1.5-litre front-wheel-drive Demio. Confirm the original market, build date and supplied mounting parts for the exact car.

Other engines and three-door cars
The European DE range also included 1.3 petrol and diesel engines, plus the three-door body. Send the engine, body style and chassis identification before ordering N-08. A shared model name or similar front strut is not application confirmation.

Demio imports and e-4WD
Japan's 2007 Demio range included front-wheel drive and an electric rear-drive system on some grades. N-08 is a front-wheel-drive reference. Identify the driven wheels, engine and transmission on an import so the right hardware can be checked.

Modified mounts and track projects
Include changed hubs, arms or front mounts, wheel spacers and any alterations to the rear beam or spring seats. For a developed circuit car, add tyres, operating weight and the event. These details belong in the specification before a kit is chosen.

N-08 BR RA is the named starting configuration. BR uses combined damping adjustment; the current listing records 5 kg/mm front and 3 kg/mm rear springs, with pillowball front and rubber rear mounting. Confirm the actual parts supplied and discuss the effect of the front mount with the fitter. Keep tyre clearance and useful movement for uneven roads.
- Combined damping adjustment
- Confirm the pillowball front mount
- Keep clearance for everyday use
Compare BR and the inverted-front RM configuration for your car.
Read the buying advice
BR can be considered for a road car that also does occasional circuit days. RM MA is a different listed configuration with an inverted front arrangement; it is not simply BR with a different top mount. Tell us the tyres, operating weight and intended use, then confirm the springs and adjuster access. The BR starting price is not an RM quote.
- Compare actual damper construction
- Confirm springs for the tyres and load
- Record damping and tyre-pressure changes
Agree the complete specification for the event and changed hardware.

A cage, changed engine or substantial weight removal calls for the car to be assessed as it now stands. Include the rear beam, mounting points and intended tyres. Ask about the required damper travel, spring package and service plan before assuming an inverted front unit supplies a complete competition specification.
- Supply the event and operating weight
- Identify altered suspension hardware
- Agree travel, springs and service needs
Separate rear springs on a torsion beam.
On a standard Mazda 2 DE, the rear spring and damper are mounted separately.
Component layout only. Mounts, dimensions and adjusters vary by kit.Mazda's original DE workshop drawings show front struts and a rear torsion-beam axle. The rear coil springs sit on their own seats beside the dampers. This is the original front-wheel-drive layout; an e-4WD import needs its own application and hardware check.
Inspect the rear spring pads and seats, beam bushes and damper mounts before fitting. Confirm how the chosen kit sets rear height and retains the springs through suspension movement. A spring platform changes the seating position; it does not itself provide independent rear camber or toe adjustment. Front lower-bracket instructions cannot simply be applied to the separate rear assembly.
Understand separate rear spring adjustment
Measure the car on the wheels you will use.
Give the installer the actual wheel widths, offsets, tyres and any spacers. Check front clearance at steering lock and through suspension travel, then check the rear arches with the normal loads considered. Decide the running height before final alignment is measured.
Have the front bearings and mounting parts, lower-arm bushes and rear beam bushes inspected while the suspension is accessible. Keep a record of the final height and alignment. If wheels or tyres change later, those measurements give the fitter a useful starting point for another clearance check.
Wheel offset and arch clearance
A larger wheel can take up space beside the front spring and inside the rear arch. Supply width, offset, tyre size and spacer thickness for each axle. Check the complete wheel package through steering and suspension movement before agreeing the height.
Front mounts and bearings
BR RA names a pillowball front arrangement; RM MA names an inverted front configuration. Confirm the exact mounting parts and adjustment access supplied with either. Identify previously fitted camber parts, shortened links or altered brackets before the installer starts.
Rear spring seats and beam bushes
Inspect pads, seats and damper mounting hardware as well as the bushes locating the beam. Identify earlier springs or replacement shocks. Confirm the available movement and spring retention at the chosen height from the exact kit instructions.
Tyres and weight for circuit use
Bring the tyre specification and operating weight with driver and fuel to the setup discussion. Include a cage, stripped interior or engine change. Choose a starting damping setting with the fitter and record changes so that one useful adjustment can be separated from another.

See the controls and hardware in the listed kit.
N-08 is the current listed DE5FS front-wheel-drive reference with BR RA and RM MA configurations. BC's manufacturer table confirms those choices. BR has combined damping adjustment; RM uses an inverted front arrangement. Check the selected configuration in the live selector, then confirm its supplied mounts and spring package. The listing's starting price applies to BR, not every configuration.

Questions about Mazda 2 DE coilovers.
Check the details before choosing your kit.
Does this guide cover DY or DJ Mazda2s?
No. This is the rounded DE-generation Mazda2 introduced in 2007. The taller DY and later DJ use different references. Identify the chassis and build date when a registration falls near a model change.
Will N-08 fit every 2007 to 2014 Mazda2?
The manufacturer table names front-wheel-drive DE5FS. Have other engines, three-door cars and imported variants checked individually. The broad Mazda2 year range is not a substitute for the exact chassis and application details.
Are the rear springs separate from the dampers?
Yes. Mazda's original DE workshop drawings show separate rear coils and dampers on a torsion-beam axle, with struts at the front. Confirm the chosen kit's rear seats, pads and mounting requirements.
What changes between BR RA and RM MA?
BR is the combined-damping road and occasional-circuit range. The listed RM MA option uses an inverted front arrangement. They are different damper specifications, not just different top mounts. Confirm springs and installation details for the actual configuration.
What spring rates does the listing record?
The current N-08 listing records 5 kg/mm front and 3 kg/mm rear. Confirm the springs supplied with the selected configuration and discuss changes using the car's tyres, operating weight and use. These are spring rates, not wheel rates.
What should I check on an imported Demio?
Supply the original market, chassis code, engine and transmission, and identify whether the car is front-wheel drive or e-4WD. Mazda offered electric rear drive on some Japanese grades. A front-wheel-drive kit reference does not approve that different rear hardware.
Will rear height adjustment also adjust rear camber?
A rear spring-height platform changes the spring seating position. It does not itself provide an independent camber or toe adjustment. Have the beam condition and final alignment measured with the chosen wheels and height.
Is RM automatically the right choice for a race car?
No. Discuss the event, tyres, operating weight and modified hardware first. An inverted front arrangement is one construction choice; the complete competition setup still needs suitable springs, travel, mounting and service requirements agreed for the build.
Let’s talk suspension.
Start with the finder, then include the chassis code, engine and body style. Tell us if the car is an imported Demio, has electric rear drive or carries changed suspension hardware so we can check the exact configuration.
