Sliding doors, flexible seating and independent suspension.

A Mazda5 can leave home with one person aboard and return with the rear seats occupied and luggage behind them. Tell the fitter about that load before choosing springs or lowering the car. A gap above an unloaded tyre cannot tell you how much movement remains on a loaded dip.

Our current CR listing is BC Racing N-10 for the 2005 to 2010 FWD application, CREW/CR3W. It has BR RA and RM MA configurations. Japanese 4WD Premacy models and the later CW-generation Mazda5 need separate checks.

Mazda launched the second-generation Premacy in Japan in February 2005 and introduced it overseas as the Mazda5. Its sliding rear doors made access easier in tight parking spaces, while the adaptable cabin could switch between carrying passengers and luggage.

The chassis used MacPherson struts at the front and an E-type multi-link rear. Mazda's engineering paper describes the effort to balance steering response with ride comfort. That balance is useful context when choosing replacement suspension for a car that still does family journeys.

The Japanese range gained a 4WD version in August 2005, followed by a facelift in September 2007. Keep the complete chassis, original market and build date with an enquiry. The Premacy name continued into other generations, so the badge alone will not identify the right coilover kit.

CREW/CR3W front-wheel drive

BC Racing's manufacturer table names N-10 for the 2005 to 2010 Mazda5 FWD, CREW/CR3W. Match the full chassis and engine to the supplied kit. Ask for an exact check if the car's market or engine details differ from that named application.

Premacy imports and 4WD

Mazda sold this generation as the Premacy in Japan, including a 4WD model. Our N-10 manufacturer row is FWD. Provide the complete chassis, engine and driven wheels for an import check; a matching registration year does not approve the 4WD car.

Changed hardware or a later Mazda5

Include altered hubs, arms or drivetrain parts with a project enquiry. The later CWEFW/CWEAW Mazda5 and Premacy use separate catalogue references. Parts shared elsewhere in the Mazda range do not establish an N-10 match for your car.

For a confirmed N-10 FWD application, BR RA is the conventional front-strut option with the listed pillowball front and rubber rear mounts. Discuss cabin noise from firmer mounts and confirm the supplied spring package. Agree a usable height with allowance for the car's normal passengers and luggage.

Consider the inverted front-strut construction.

Read the buying advice

N-10 RM MA has the listed inverted front struts and rubber rear mounts. BC describes the inverted strut's larger shaft as useful for sustained lateral loading. Its single damping control changes compression and rebound together. BR can also suit occasional track use; confirm the springs, running weight and exact application before choosing between them.

On a standard Mazda 5 CR, the rear spring and damper are mounted separately.

Component layout only. Mounts, dimensions and adjusters vary by kit.

The CR's factory rear suspension has separate coil springs and dampers within an independent E-type multi-link layout. Mazda's original engineering drawing shows the two positions clearly. The front uses MacPherson struts, with the spring surrounding the damper.

Check the N-10 kit's supplied rear springs, seats and adjusters against its fitting instructions, including any original rubber parts it retains. Rear spring-seat height and damper length perform different jobs. Follow the kit's setting procedure and check the available movement with the normal load on board.

Understand rear height and preload

Check the space the loaded car needs.

Give the fitter your wheel width, offset, tyre size and spacer details. Check outer-arch and inner suspension clearance through steering and compression, allowing for the people and luggage the car normally carries. Keep within its plated axle and gross weight limits.

Inspect the spring seats, mounting areas and suspension links before fitting. Deal with worn joints or damaged bushes, then set and settle the agreed height before measuring alignment. Keep the final settings with the spring specification so the car has a useful baseline.

Passengers and luggage

Explain the load the car carries on its usual journeys. Leave sufficient compression travel and clearance for it. A damper adjustment changes how movement is controlled; it does not restore space lost by setting the car too low.

Wheel width and offset

Include the actual tyre model as well as its marked size. Check the inner spring-platform side and the outer arch, with steering lock and suspension movement accounted for. Spacers change wheel position and need to be part of that assessment.

Mounts and ageing joints

Investigate knocks and looseness before fitting. Check the mounting structure, spring seats and link bushes. Replacing a damper cannot correct wear in another joint, and a final alignment needs sound components to hold its settings.

Road access

Think about the ramps, speed humps and steep entrances the Mazda5 uses. Agree the final height with those journeys in mind. Check the exhaust and underside as well as the space above the tyres.

Recorded circuit settings

Start with the kit maker's procedure and a measured alignment. Write down tyre pressures and damping settings, then change one setting at a time. Keep a record of the road setup if the car still carries passengers between events.

BC Racing

N-10 is the current CR FWD listing, with exact BR RA and RM MA configurations. The RM option changes the front strut construction; its damping control still adjusts compression and rebound together. Confirm the spring specification, rear hardware and parts retained from the car when ordering.

Questions about Mazda 5 CR coilovers.

Check the details before choosing your kit.

Which coilovers are currently listed for the Mazda5 CR?

The current listing is BC Racing N-10, with BR RA and RM MA configurations. BC's manufacturer table names the 2005 to 2010 FWD Mazda5, chassis CREW/CR3W. Match the full chassis, engine and original market before ordering.

Does the Mazda5 CR have separate rear springs and dampers?

Yes. Its factory independent E-type multi-link rear uses a coil spring on its own seats beside the damper. The front uses MacPherson struts. Check the exact kit's rear adjusters and retained parts against its supplied fitting instructions.

Will the N-10 fit a Japanese Premacy or a 4WD car?

Ask for an exact check using the full chassis, engine, original market and driven wheels. Mazda offered this Premacy generation with 4WD, while BC's N-10 application row is FWD. A shared model name or year does not confirm the 4WD application.

Are the later Mazda5 and Premacy coilover kits the same?

The later CWEFW and CWEAW cars have separate catalogue references. Our current N-10 listing is for the named early CR FWD application. Keep the generation and complete chassis code with the enquiry rather than choosing by the Mazda5 or Premacy badge alone.

What changes between the N-10 BR RA and RM MA?

The listed BR RA has conventional front struts with pillowball front and rubber rear mounts. RM MA has inverted front struts and the listed rubber rear mounts. Confirm the supplied spring and mount package for the actual order. The RM control changes compression and rebound together.

How much should I lower a Mazda5 that carries passengers?

Agree a usable height with the fitter after discussing normal passenger and luggage loads. Check clearance through suspension movement, steering and the road entrances you use. An unloaded arch gap does not show all the space needed on a loaded journey; keep within the vehicle's plated weight limits.

Which spring rates should I choose for a Mazda5 CR?

Confirm the exact supplied rates with the order and discuss the car's loads, tyres and intended use with the fitter. Spring-rate figures alone do not establish wheel stiffness or remaining suspension travel. A damper setting cannot compensate for an unsuitable spring or a height that leaves too little clearance.

Do occasional Mazda5 track days require the RM kit?

A correctly matched BR package can also be considered for occasional circuit use. RM's inverted front construction is an alternative for sustained strut loading. Choose around the actual application and setup, with the car's condition, brakes and tyres checked. A developed competition build needs its own specification discussion.
