Mazda 5 CW / Premacy.
The coilover guide.
Shop the coiloversThe later Mazda5 and Japanese Premacy share a generation, with several different suspension references. Match the exact car first, then keep enough travel for the people and luggage it carries.
The flowing body came with the next Mazda5.
A CWEFW chassis code appears against more than one current kit reference. Keep the model's original market, build date and engine with that code so the supplied application can be checked. The Premacy V1 listings and the Mazda5 BR/RM listing have different recorded specifications.
Decide how the car needs to work with passengers aboard before choosing a height. The sliding doors, wheel package and loaded arch clearance all need to remain usable. Japanese AWD cars have a separate kit reference; later SKYACTIV models need an exact application check.
Mazda announced this Mazda5 for its global debut at the Geneva show in March 2010, with European sales planned for that autumn. The Japanese version went on sale as the new Premacy in July. Its flowing Nagare side panels make it easy to distinguish from the earlier CR's straighter doors.
The new body retained dual sliding rear doors and an adaptable cabin. Mazda's Japanese launch described the second-row centre seat folding away to open a walkway. The North American Mazda5 used a different seating arrangement, so keep regional specifications with the actual car rather than applying one market's brochure to every import.
Japan gained a 4WD Premacy in August 2010. The January 2013 update then brought the SKYACTIV-G 2.0 engine and six-speed SKYACTIV-DRIVE transmission to the main two-wheel-drive grades. A registration year can therefore cover different engines and driven wheels within the same CW family.

Mazda5 CWEFW: N-23
The current N-23 reference names the 2011 to 2018 Mazda5 FWD, CWEFW. It has selectable BR RA and RM MA configurations. Confirm the original market and engine against that reference; the shared CWEFW code does not by itself approve the Premacy V1 package as a substitute.

Premacy CWEFW: N-21
The separate Premacy FWD listing is N-21 for the named 2010 to 2018 CWEFW application. Its recorded V1 VM package has rubber front mounts, with rear mounts retained or supplied as specified. Confirm the exact springs and rear parts before treating it as suitable for your car.

Premacy AWD CWEAW: N-22
N-22 is the current Premacy AWD reference, naming CWEAW and a V1 VA configuration with pillowball front mounts. Give us the full chassis, engine and original market for the order check. Its rear hardware and fitting procedure must be checked for the actual AWD package.

SKYACTIV, other markets and projects
For CWFFW, another engine or a car with changed hubs or suspension arms, send the complete details for an exact check. An item listed for another CW model does not confirm that application. Keep the earlier CREW/CR3W Mazda5 separate too; it uses the N-10 reference.

Confirm the regional application before choosing the package.
Read the buying advice
For a car confirmed against N-23, BR RA has conventional front struts and the listed pillowball front and rubber rear mounts. Discuss the effect of firmer mounts on cabin noise and agree the springs for normal loads. A Premacy matched to N-21 needs that package checked on its own specification, even though both listings name CWEFW.
- Exact N-23 Mazda5 application
- Listed pillowball front / rubber rear mounts
- Allow for passengers and luggage
Choose the front strut construction for the intended use.
Read the buying advice
The exact N-23 RM MA option has inverted front struts and the listed rubber rear mounts. BC uses that construction for the lateral loads carried by a strut during sustained circuit driving. Its control still changes compression and rebound together. BR can also be considered for occasional track days; keep tyre choice and spring specification in the discussion.
- Inverted front strut construction
- Combined compression and rebound control
- Keep a measured alignment baseline
Agree a specification for the completed car.
Read the buying advice
Send the running weight and intended event, with details of the tyres, cage and changed suspension parts. A developed FWD build and an AWD Premacy need separate application decisions. Discuss the spring and damper controls the build requires, then confirm a suitable available package and the event's rules before ordering.
- A specification enquiry
- Keep FWD and AWD applications separate
- Include the running weight and tyre package
Separate rear units on the factory FWD layout.
On a standard Mazda5 CW FWD, the rear spring and damper are mounted separately.
Component layout only. Mounts, dimensions and adjusters vary by kit.Mazda's description of the new FWD Mazda5 shows a MacPherson front and a multi-link rear with the coil spring separate from the damper. The front spring surrounds its damper. The compact illustration identifies those factory FWD positions, with the spring on its own seats at the rear.
Confirm each kit's rear springs, seats, adjusters and reused rubber against its supplied instructions. Keep the AWD package's hardware and mounting details with that application check. Use the exact setting procedure for spring-seat height and damper length, with enough movement left for the car's normal load.
Understand rear height and preload
Keep the doors and loaded clearance usable.
A wheel that clears the arch with the car parked still needs space through steering and suspension compression. Provide its width and offset, tyre model and any spacers. Have the fitter check the sliding doors' travel too when assessing a wider wheel package.
Explain what the Mazda5 normally carries before setting the final height. Check spring seats, link bushes and mounting areas, repair faults and settle the suspension before the alignment. Keep the agreed setup within the car's plated axle and gross weight limits.
Wheel position and door travel
Check the full wheel and tyre package against the inner suspension and outer arch. On this sliding-door body, include door movement in the clearance assessment. A spacer changes the wheel's position and needs to be declared with the offset.
Normal passenger loads
Tell the fitter about regular luggage and the seats you normally use. Leave adequate compression travel at the agreed height. Increasing damping cannot create clearance that the car has already used up with its load.
Mounts and retained parts
Confirm the exact front mount and what the rear package reuses. Investigate worn rubber, loose joints or damaged spring seats before fitting. Keep the N-21, N-22 and N-23 parts lists with their own applications.
Alignment after repairs
Complete repairs before measuring the final alignment. Record the settled ride height and damper settings with the result, then follow the kit maker's recheck instructions. Sound links and bushes are needed to hold those settings.
SKYACTIV and altered cars
Include the engine code and complete chassis for a later Japanese model. Record changed hubs, arms or drivetrain parts on a project. An original-market badge or a similar-looking body cannot confirm which package matches those changes.
The current 5 CW / Premacy range.
Compare the controls and hardware included in each range.
The range has three distinct references: N-21 for the named Premacy FWD, N-22 for Premacy AWD and N-23 for Mazda5 FWD. The shop lists V1 VM, V1 VA and BR RA/RM MA packages respectively. Confirm the exact market, engine, springs and mounts with the supplied reference; these are separate application choices.

Questions about Mazda 5 CW / Premacy coilovers.
Check the details before choosing your kit.
Which coilover references are listed for the Mazda5 CW and Premacy?
The current BC Racing listings are N-21 for Premacy FWD CWEFW, N-22 for Premacy AWD CWEAW and N-23 for Mazda5 FWD CWEFW. N-23 has selectable BR RA and RM MA configurations. Confirm the original market, engine and complete chassis before choosing the supplied reference.
Are the later Mazda5 and Premacy the same generation?
Mazda introduced the new Mazda5 in 2010 and sold it in Japan as the new Premacy. They belong together in a generation guide, but regional model names do not make every suspension kit interchangeable. The shop lists separate references for the named FWD and AWD applications.
Can I substitute N-21 for N-23 because both list CWEFW?
Ask for an exact application check first. The listings have different regional names, year boundaries and recorded series, spring and mount specifications. The shared CWEFW code is not enough to confirm that one supplied package replaces the other on your car.
Which listing is for an AWD Premacy?
The current AWD reference is N-22 for the named CWEAW application, recorded as V1 VA with pillowball front mounts. Confirm the complete chassis and engine, rear hardware and supplied instructions for that actual package. FWD N-21 and N-23 listings do not establish AWD compatibility.
Are these kits confirmed for a CWFFW SKYACTIV model?
Send the full chassis, engine and original market for a separate check. Mazda added SKYACTIV equipment to the main Japanese two-wheel-drive grades in 2013, while the current BC references name CWEFW or CWEAW. Membership of the CW family alone does not approve the CWFFW application.
How is the factory FWD Mazda5 CW rear suspension arranged?
Mazda describes a multi-link rear with separate coil springs and dampers, and MacPherson struts at the front. The illustration shows those factory FWD positions. Check the supplied kit's rear adjusters and retained parts; the AWD package needs its own hardware check.
What changes between the N-23 BR RA and RM MA configurations?
The listed BR RA uses conventional front struts with pillowball front and rubber rear mounts. RM MA has inverted front struts and the listed rubber rear mounts. Its control changes compression and rebound together. Confirm the supplied spring package and choose around the car's actual use.
What should I check when lowering a Mazda5 CW on wider wheels?
Give the fitter the wheel width, offset, tyre model and spacer details. Check the inner suspension, outer arches and sliding-door movement, allowing for steering and suspension compression with normal passengers and luggage. Agree a usable height and keep within the vehicle's plated weight limits.
Let’s talk suspension.
Give us the full CW chassis and engine code, original market and driven wheels. Add the wheel package and normal passenger load so we can check the supplied reference for your car.
