Mazda 6 GH.
The coilover guide.
Shop the coiloversA GH can spend the week commuting and the weekend carrying a full boot. Choose its suspension around that use, with the exact chassis and driven wheels matched to the kit.
The second Mazda6, in three body styles.
Start with the way your Mazda6 is loaded. A height that works with an empty boot still needs enough suspension movement for passengers, luggage and the road surface. Tell the fitter about regular loads before agreeing the springs and final ride height.
Our current GH listing is BC Racing N-13 for the GH5FS front-wheel-drive application. Estates, other engines and AWD imports need their own application check. The earlier GG/GY and later GJ Mazda6 have separate kit references.
The European-specification second-generation Mazda6 made its world debut at the Frankfurt show in September 2007. Mazda launched the redesigned Atenza in Japan in January 2008, with a four-door saloon, the Sport five-door hatchback and a Sport Wagon estate.
Mazda retained high-mounted double wishbones at the front and an E-type multi-link rear. Its launch material put long-distance comfort alongside steering response, while the Japanese range included both front-wheel drive and AWD. A shared generation name therefore covers cars with different body and drivetrain requirements.
The Japanese facelift announced in January 2010 included revised steering and suspension settings. When ordering replacements, keep the build date and complete chassis code with the car's original market. A registration year alone can straddle a model change.

Estate and Sport Wagon
Send the complete chassis, engine and original market for a wagon application check. GH5FW and GHEFW appear in other manufacturers' information, but that does not confirm our N-13 package for them. Include the weight the car normally carries.

Read the buying advice
For a confirmed GH5FS FWD application, the listed N-13 BR RS has rubber top mounts and an 8 kg/mm front, 6 kg/mm rear spring specification. Discuss the actual load and tyre package with the fitter. Leave room for the suspension to compress over a broken surface or a loaded motorway dip.
- Rubber mounts in the listed RS package
- Confirm the supplied 8/6 spring specification
- Allow for passengers and luggage
Use the same matched kit with a recorded setup.
Read the buying advice
The N-13 BR RS can also be discussed for occasional circuit use on the correct application. Its BR damper adjustment changes compression and rebound together. Have the tyres, brakes, bushes and joints checked before the day, then record the alignment and damper settings so changes can be assessed against a known starting point.
- The same verified N-13 package
- Combined compression and rebound control
- Record alignment and tyre pressures
Agree the damping and spring specification for the build.

Frequent sessions or competition call for a discussion about running weight, tyres and the adjustments the driver needs. Include any cage, stripped interior or changed suspension arms. Ask about the available matched spring and damper specification, with the relevant competition rules checked before ordering.
- A specification enquiry
- Include running weight and tyre choice
- Check permitted modifications
A separate spring in the multi-link rear.
On a standard Mazda 6 GH, the rear spring and damper are mounted separately.
Component layout only. Mounts, dimensions and adjusters vary by kit.The GH's rear spring sits on its own seats beside the damper. Both work within the independent multi-link suspension. At the front, the spring surrounds the damper in the double-wishbone arrangement.
A complete coilover kit can retain those separate rear component positions. Check its spring seats, adjusters and reused rubber against the supplied instructions. The rear spring-seat position and damper length affect different parts of the setup; use the procedure for the actual kit.
Understand rear height and preload
Check clearance with the load on board.
Provide wheel width, offset, tyre size and spacers before settling on a height. A stationary gap above the tyre shows only part of the picture. The fitter needs to check the arch and inner suspension clearance through steering and suspension movement, allowing for the passengers or luggage you normally carry.
Inspect mounts, spring seats and the surrounding structure while checking the bushes and joints. Complete repairs before fitting, settle the agreed height and measure the final alignment. Keep the results with the spring specification and damper settings.
Wheel position and tyre shape
Give the fitter the actual wheel width, offset and tyre model. Spacers move the wheel outward, while tyre shoulder shapes can change the available space. Check the spring-platform side as well as the outer arch.
Bushes, joints and mounts
Investigate looseness, knocks and damaged mounting areas before choosing settings. A new damper does not repair wear elsewhere in the suspension. Make the alignment assessment after those faults have been dealt with.
Regular luggage and passengers
Discuss the car's normal load when agreeing springs and ride height. For an estate, confirm the exact wagon application first. Leave enough clearance and movement for loaded journeys as well as the empty car.
Imports and changed drivetrains
Include the original market and driven wheels with the complete chassis code. Record changed hubs or suspension arms too. An AWD model or converted car needs an application check beyond the Mazda6 name.
Track settings
Write down the tyres, pressures, alignment and damper settings before making adjustments. Note the conditions and change one setting at a time. Keep the road setup available if the car has to commute afterwards.

Questions about Mazda 6 GH coilovers.
Check the details before choosing your kit.
Which coilover kit is currently listed for the Mazda6 GH?
The current listing is BC Racing N-13 BR RS. BC's manufacturer application table names the 2008 to 2012 FWD Mazda6 GH5FS. Confirm the complete chassis, body, engine and build details before choosing it.
Does the Mazda6 GH have separate rear springs and dampers?
Yes. The rear spring has its own seats beside the damper within the independent multi-link suspension. The front uses double wishbones with the spring around the damper. Check the exact kit's rear adjusters and retained parts against its fitting instructions.
Is the N-13 listing confirmed for every GH estate?
The current BC application specifically names GH5FS FWD. For a GH estate or Sport Wagon, send the complete chassis, engine and original market so the supplied application can be confirmed. Another manufacturer's wagon listing does not establish N-13 fitment.
What if I have a diesel, saloon or AWD Atenza import?
Ask for an exact application check with the complete chassis, engine, body and driven wheels. The GH range includes different versions, while the current N-13 reference is GH5FS FWD. Keep the original market and any drivetrain changes with the enquiry.
What mounts and spring rates are recorded for the N-13?
Our listed BR RS specification has rubber top mounts with 8 kg/mm front and 6 kg/mm rear springs. Confirm the springs and retained hardware with the actual order. The spring-rate numbers do not describe wheel stiffness or prove compatibility with a different GH model.
Can I adjust compression and rebound separately on this BR kit?
BR damper adjustment changes compression and rebound together through one control. If the build needs separate damping controls, ask about a suitable available specification for the exact car. A different series advertised by the manufacturer is not automatically a current listed GH option.
How should I allow for passengers and luggage when lowering a GH?
Tell the fitter what the car normally carries before agreeing springs and height. Check clearance through suspension movement with allowance for that load. An empty-car arch gap alone cannot show the space needed on a loaded journey.
Can the same GH coilover kit be used for road and occasional track days?
A correctly matched N-13 BR RS can be discussed for both uses. Suitability depends on the car, tyres, spring specification and setup. Have the car inspected and the alignment recorded; for frequent circuit work or competition, discuss the running weight and adjustment requirements separately.
Let’s talk suspension.
Give us the full GH chassis and engine details with the body and driven wheels. Include the wheel package and usual load so we can discuss the right application and setup.
