A lower, longer take on the family minivan.

An MPV can look quite different with a full cabin. Explain how you use the second and third rows, what normally goes in the boot and which ramps the car needs to clear. Those details help the fitter agree a useful height before the wheels and suspension are ordered.

The current BC Racing package names the 2006 to 2016 LY3P front-wheel-drive MPV. Mazda also built four-wheel-drive LY3P versions, so the chassis code alone leaves an important question unanswered. The earlier LW generation has a separate kit reference.

Mazda launched the third-generation MPV in Japan on 2 February 2006. Its long, relatively low body held three rows of seats behind a short bonnet, with wide sliding rear doors and a 2,950mm wheelbase. The LY followed the second-generation MPV introduced in 1999.

The Japanese launch range began with a naturally aspirated 2.3-litre petrol engine and front-wheel drive. A turbocharged version followed in March, with four-wheel-drive models arriving in April. An imported car's engine and driven wheels therefore need checking alongside its build date.

Mazda retained MacPherson struts at the front but replaced the previous generation's torsion-beam rear with a multi-link arrangement. Keep that generation change in mind when looking at used suspension or comparing an older MPV's parts. A similar model badge does not make the assemblies interchangeable.

LY3P FWD: the N-14 application

BC Racing lists N-14 for the 2006 to 2016 MPV FWD, LY3P. The current shop package is V1 VM, recorded with rubber front mounts and rubber or no rear mounts. Confirm the full engine and build details, supplied rear hardware and any parts retained from the car.

LY3P with four-wheel drive

Mazda used LY3P for four-wheel-drive cars too. The listed N-14 application explicitly names FWD, so send the full identification and driven wheels for a separate check. A matching engine capacity or registration year cannot extend that application to 4WD.

Imported cars and missing build details

Provide the original market, chassis identification and engine details if the registration record is incomplete. Include the build date and any factory revisions. Keep an earlier LW or a differently specified overseas car separate from the named LY3P FWD package.

N-14 V1 VM is the current example for a car confirmed against the LY3P FWD application. Ask which mounts, rear spring seats and protective parts the supplied package includes or reuses. Agree the springs and height with your normal load in mind, then follow the kit's starting settings and record later adjustments.

Tell us what the sessions involve and confirm that the organiser accepts the car. Discuss tyres, running weight and the springs and damping it would need. Changed drivetrain parts, substantial weight changes or different suspension mounts require a build-specific assessment. Supply the event regulations and the proposed hardware so travel, springs and damper requirements can be considered together. Separate rear spring and damperThe coil spring rests between its own seats, beside a separate shock absorber. This fixed component diagram does not show vehicle dimensions, mounting hardware or suspension movement.SpringDamper

On a standard Mazda MPV LY3P FWD, the rear spring and damper are mounted separately.

Component layout only. Mounts, dimensions and adjusters vary by kit.

The LY uses MacPherson struts at the front and a multi-link rear assembly. Its rear coil spring sits on its own lower-arm seat beside the upright damper. This is a different layout from a spring wrapped around a rear strut.

Confirm the N-14 kit's rear spring hardware, adjusters and retained rubber parts. Follow its own instructions for spring-seat height and installed damper settings. A front lower-bracket adjustment is not a four-corner setup instruction, and the 4WD car still needs a separate application check.

Leave clearance for a full day's use.

A parked car can show an obvious tyre or arch concern. The fitter still needs to assess steering and suspension movement at the proposed height, with the actual wheel width, offset and tyre size. Include any spacers and a front lip in the discussion, then check the ramps and access routes you use.

Explain the usual passenger and luggage load before the final height is agreed. Inspect the mounting parts and bushes, repair worn components and arrange alignment once the running height is settled. Keep the settings and measurements with the car's records.

Normal passenger and luggage loads

Describe how the rear seats and boot are used, including equipment added during a conversion. Agree a height that retains the required compression travel and stays within the car's plated weight limits. Changing a damping setting cannot create clearance already used by the load.

Wheel width, offset and doors

Consider the wheel and tyre as a complete package. Check the inner suspension and outer arch through movement, and verify sliding-door clearance. Spacers change where the wheel sits, so include their dimensions when asking about fitment.

Mounts, seats and worn bushes

Confirm the supplied parts list and inspect the components that remain on the car. Worn mounts, damaged spring-seat rubber or tired link bushes need attention before the final height and alignment are set.

Alignment and fitting work

Plan fitting and repairs alongside the kit. Ask which alignment adjustments are available on the actual car and have the headlight aim checked after lowering. Follow the supplied inspection and recheck instructions after fitting.

BC Racing

N-14 is the listed 2006 to 2016 MPV LY3P FWD application, with a V1 VM package recorded in the current shop. Confirm its rubber mounts, rear springs and retained hardware. The earlier LW N-16 and four-wheel-drive LY cars need their own application checks.

Questions about Mazda MPV LY coilovers.

Check the details before choosing your kit.

Which MPV does BC Racing N-14 name?

N-14 names the 2006 to 2016 Mazda MPV LY3P with front-wheel drive. Confirm the full chassis and engine details, build date and original market before ordering the listed V1 VM package.

Does LY3P alone confirm that N-14 fits?

Mazda also built four-wheel-drive LY3P cars. N-14 explicitly names FWD, so confirm the driven wheels as well as the chassis code. Request a separate application check for a 4WD car.

Is the earlier 1999 to 2006 MPV the same application?

The earlier LW generation has a separate BC reference, N-16, while this guide's N-14 names LY3P. Use the full chassis and build details to identify the generation, especially around the 2006 changeover.

Are the LY3P's rear spring and damper separate?

Yes. On the factory FWD layout the rear spring has its own lower-arm seat beside the damper, within a multi-link assembly. Follow the selected kit's rear spring and damper instructions; the front strut's adjustment method does not apply to every corner.

Does the V1 VM reference include camber plates?

The current N-14 package is recorded with rubber front mounts and rubber or no rear mounts. BC's V1 application table does not mark camber adjustment for N-14. Confirm the exact supplied and reused parts before arranging fitting.

How low should I set an MPV used with passengers?

Agree the height using the selected kit's instructions and the car's usual load. Retain the required suspension travel and wheel clearance, including access over everyday ramps. Stay within the vehicle's plated weight limits.

Which kit should I choose for a track project?

Discuss the event, tyres, running weight and changed hardware before ordering. The current shop has one named LY3P FWD package, without a separately verified competition specification. Confirm event eligibility and an appropriate complete package for the actual build.

Will the number plate finder confirm an imported MPV's fitment?

The finder helps identify the car. An imported MPV still needs its full chassis, engine, driven wheels and original market checked against the kit, along with changes to mounting parts or wheels.

Let’s talk suspension.

Find your MPV, then add its full chassis and engine details, driven wheels and normal passenger load. Tell us about the wheel package and any conversion work so we can discuss the correct reference and fitting checks.
